 Description
What used to be a decent-sized single screen theater. The main entrance up front has been sealed with bricks. A large overhead door is installed in the north side of the building for adding/removing autos. Various automobiles in various states of disassembly reside in the auditorium area. Most of the plaster is gone, save for a couple rooms. The projection room still exists, but no projectors are there anymore.

     History
Information from the Cinema Treasures website:

Opened as the Ritz Theatre on February 22, 1927 with seating listed at 1,400. The architect for the Ritz was George V. Bedall.

The theatre had a 2 Manual Geneva organ. For many years the theatre was one of the leading movie houses in Indianapolis. It became known as the Northside Theatre in August of 1958 through June of 1970.

In 1962 movies became a thing of the past when burlesque moved in. Burlesque was short-lived though when the strippers and management were hauled off to court.

In June of 1970 it was remodeled and all the seats were removed to become a rock concert venue. In January of 1972 the name was changed back to the Ritz Theatre and continued on with an attempt to keep the rock concerts going but that failed and the Ritz Theatre closed in the latter part of 1972.

The theater's next occupant was The Famous Door, a nightclub known for hosting some of the earliest and best drag shows in Indianapolis. They operated within the space until 1979.

     Future Plans
The last owner, in 2022, listed the property for sale with Shook Realty Group as a potential retail / office or multifamily development opportunity. The current owner is a holding company, so one could expect it to be listed for sale for the same potential purpose...
