 Overview
 Description
Cool park, walk up from the aqueduct trail through the abandoned house, and up into the back of Untermyer...you'll get to check out the abandoned parts first, then walk the "1000" stairs to the nicer part. After the hike, grab a drink at the office and relax by the fountains...

     History
Was once the private gardens of Samuel Untermyer, the land was donated to the city after his death, and in the past 10 years have been somewhat restored. Possibly the site of David Berkowitz's (Son of Sam's) cult gatherings.

Growing up around the corner from this place, I've heard things from my family. David Berkowitz, known as the son of sam or .44 caliber killer, was known to have satanic rituals at Untermeyer park. He was said to have sacrificed animals with his cult. He killed several people, mostly couples in cars or women. He is still alive in Sulliven county jail, aged 62. He gave up worshipping satan and now has a website where he follows god. The main place where his sacrifices were held is now demolished but some of the caves are still there as well as the eagles nest now known as the temple of love.
     Media Coverage
It was known as a fact that Untermyer Park, in Yonkers... and Van Courtlandt Park, in The Bronx were gathering places for alternative neo-pagan/cult activity. Quite a number of the later emerging American Punk, and Neo-Nazi skinheads hung out at these places too? Because of the North and South locations of these parks to a long time "Elite Section" of New York, Called "Riverdale", that most of the hardcore-cult majority of rich upper crust, and surburban upper middle-class teenagers hung out at Untermyer Park. It is likely that David Berkowitz, may have met "The Carr Brothers", in The Bronx... and later introduced him into the more hardcore group in Yonkers.

I didn't say, this is what I found..
