The entire park was built for children, so everything is built to a childs' size. There were little cars, houses, a small castle, even a river boat. Walking down the little streets make someone my size feel like Godzilla in Tokyo.

The remnants of the park were completely destroyed in 2011 by the remnants of tropical storm Irene. from: http://members.aol...e/lofmb/index.html The Land of Make Believe was a place built just for kids. A place where they could explore without being told "do not touch." A place where they could expend their energy without their parents worrying about them damaging anything. A place where they could enthusiastically enjoy the objects and rides in the park without having to worry about spending too much time at one place or not moving on to the next thing too quickly, or too slowly. A place where they could let their imaginations run free. The Land Of Makebelieve was built by Arto Monaco in 1954 as another attraction in the Adirondacks. Monaco also designed Santa's Workshop in North Pole, NY (which is still in operation). Land Of Makebelieve operated until 1979 when extensive flood damage forced its closure. The owner, Mr. Monaco, passed away in November of 2003. At this point, the future of the park is in question. For now, it sits hidden behind trees on the side of Route 9N.

from http://members.aol...e/lofmb/index.html 50th Anniversary of the opening of the Land of Makebelieve: The summer of 2004 will mark the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Land of Makebelieve. Already, there are people talking about commemorating the anniversary with some special events. Some of these include restoring the castle, fixing up a portion of Land of Makebelieve so it might give our current generation a small taste of what Land of Makebelieve once was, and possibly a 50th anniversary event sometime during the summer of 2004.
