The perfect tool for tunnels

if anyone in the DFW area or KC area are interested, we make custom spotlights modified w/ HID bulbs from a BMW 7 series. they also have a lead-acid battery that will run about 1 hour 20min. the width of the front is about 1ft across, and it has a shoulder strap. all in all, itll probably cost about $120, not bad for the brightest light money can buy. email me or come UEing w/ us and we can give a demonstration. trust us, this thing has gotten us out of trouble a lot by showing it off to cops. the love it!

I would be careful saying that's the brightest light money can buy ...

Enter maxabeam...
http://www.spa-simrad.com/maxabeam.htm

Other than that nitpick those lights are really cool! I have a spot light like that one with the original H2 [i think] bulb in it and have been considering modding it per the guides at candlepower forum. They are a little big/heavy/bulky for tunnels though, I prefer my Lithium/Krypton tactical flashlight for illuminating long tunnels. I have brought my spot into tunnels before and it's hell to climb stepirons with them!

$120 is a good deal for a pre-made spot like that WITH battery.

well, this is the body of a Thor 15 mil candle power light (no typo, 15 mil) and it had a halogen bulb and a lantern batt. in the back, so we installed a HID bulb from a bmw 7 series, and a ballast and also installed a lead-acid batt. its not water proof, we need vets for cooling it but it doesnt need fan. all together we will sell it at $120. it has a shoulder strap, so dont worry to much about weight.

Even with a shoulder strap, it would still get heavy after a while.

Myself, I use a 4D mag-light for the big jobs, and a 2 AA LED Light for the
rest of my adventures.

LOL, that's funny. But I have to agree with you, why would you need something that big?

Haha yeah, when I post I need to remember people don't know what I'm thinking when I'm shocked.

But really! Why the Hell would you need something THAT prodigiously enormous!?

let's put it this way, if you find a bear on your exploring adventures you could creep up behind it and wack it out with ease, or alternatively if it finds you, blind it, wack, and run like the wind

Keep it fuzzy.

Yup, seem over kill for normal drain exploration. I could see a use for lighting huge RCPs while taking pictures. I've found two or more 500,000 candlepower hand held lights are nice for shooting photos in large vaults but not much more. My normal light is an almost too bright headlamp: Princeton Tec Apex. No need for more.

we build them because we can, and we're dorks. its more or less bragging rights, we also have a smaller one thats just as bright, same thing, just about the size of a 4D mag light, but it cost $300. we use it more.

hmmm, a HID ballast and bulb in a modified D-cell maglite body built to run off 3V lithiums? with a super-cool 10 minute runtime?

i'll pass. i've never needed anything more than my LED headlamp and brinkmann maxfire lx (surefire knockoff)... with a mini-mag for a loaner / backup. this means, with the headlamp on my head, both my flashlights fit in my pocket. and the maxfire is brighter than a 6D maglite (and about 1/20th the size).

when i really need to light things, i've got one of those 2mill CP brinkmann q-beam 12V rechargeable 75W lamps. i've never used it for UE. i suppose it might be useful for light painting, if i rigged a diffuser onto it (the hotspot is WAY too hot for lightpainting), but i've never bothered.

its not actually a 4D mag, its a little thicker w/ rubber grips and it runs off a rechargeable lead acid.

Yeah there's no way that your 12 million cp is actually 12 million...there's a discrepancy in the way it's measured that lets them get by with it but maxabeam dominates all .
