Date Poll for SOCOPEX

So we have a good amount of people interested and now we will see which dates work best. Also, if you plan on taking professional photography (no flashes, tripods, etc..) post in here letting me know. Time of the meet up will be at around 5pm at a restaurant, then we will be out till roughly 3am (for those of you that can). The meet up will be on either a Friday or Saturday.

in response to your question, i would be using a tripod and taking carefully-composed artistic shots. i know a few others -- synonyx, dave, shockwave, etc., who also do this kind of photography on-site.

personally the further out the better for me considering money is in short supply and i'd have to work out something with work and school. i'd also rather be exploring in the spring than winter.

also: a tripod and point-and-shoot though i wouldn't call it 'professional'

I'm kinda tired of seeing events fail and fail again outside of a small core group here in socal. So here's my two sense. Pick a date and stick with it. No matter when you plan it half the people are going to complain about their work, school, money, ect. That's there damn problem and not yours. Don't compromise. You'll piss off the people who made arrangements to attend the original dates. And seriously if people can't make time they really don't care much in the first place. You can ALWAYS make time. Also, I think you limiting your schedule. Unless your militaristic about location meet up hours (which I think is a good thing) you're going to have people lagging behind, holding up the whole group. 5pm-3am gives you 2-3 locations at most. Keep in mind if you give a 5pm call at a restaurant you're not going to get outta there for at least 1.5 hours. Late arrivals, people wanting to eat, ect. Then there's travel time. You want to start in the middle of rush hour? This is los angeles after all. Also, if you're going to call it socal you're implying a bigger event than just a meet and greet. My advice would be to do it on at least a saturday to give yourself more opportunity. I'd also do some daylight locations to mix things up a bit. Anyway, I wish you luck and hope you succeed in pulling off this advent. Looking forward to meeting some new people. Cheers.

Edit: what's with the photography question or issue?

Event will be kept at the original SOCOPEX date. We are going to have separate groups for us photographers and for others, that way flashes and people walking around wont happen. I personally know of some locations in Long Beach that we can go with big groups to. If anyone has other locations available, feel free to PM me.

Agree with most of what you said except this statement. I've been wanting to make the last two get togethers, but unfortunately it always fell on a weekend when I wasn't free.

People with obligations, whatever they are, can't just "get up and go" whenever they please. And it doesn't mean they don't care. Just means they have jobs, family and/or lives outside of exploring.

I wish I drove a Harley with "Freebird" playing in the background as I drive down Route 66 and some huge inheritance from my great aunt that enabled me to do whatever I wanted... but life isn't always as romantic as we'd want it to be.

That being said. No matter what the date, I will try to make it. But if it falls on my nephews birthday party or some shit, sorry, family comes before cobwebs.

True. People have priorities that sometimes take precedent. I'm guilty myself especially when a good paying gig comes along. Guess i was trying to enlarge the point that this event has been moved an incredible 6 times due to such things as people complaining about too much homework. Just trying to help here. Cheers gentleman. Good luck again and much success.

Edit: thanks for clearing up the photography question. I'll be doing some long exposures with light painting.
