The compound & most of the buildings started off as a Nike missile 'Integrated Fire Control' facility, and then it became a CIA HF radio site operating under the flimsy cover of the US Army/National Communications System, and some of the structure were re-done plus new ones built for that purpose. It shut down shortly after one of the big hurricanes hit the area in the 1990s. For a while, it had USAF N-T signage up, but the USAF never really did anything with it, and the site became heavily trashed very quickly. It operated in conjunction with a sister site (one was for HF transmit, the other for HF receive) near the Zoo & railroad museum.
