| | ACADECA speech < on 1/17/2008 5:38 AM >
| | | being a urban explorer i decided to write a speech about it for acadeca heres the outline any suggestions are appreciated sorry but the formatting is all messed up the bullet order goes this way • o *
ACADECA Outline for speech Imagine yourself crawling through a tunnel just slightly larger than your shoulders, there is a tiny stream of water slowly running past you as you see a light about 20 feet away. However, the inevitable happens you get you’re the front of you shirt sinks into the stream.. “Great another one.” You say, and you keep trudging on wondering what that light up at the end of the tunnel is. This is just one of the many experiences urban explorers have, you may be thinking to yourself “I really don’t want to go crawling through tunnels in the middle of nowhere…” Maybe I can persuade you to thing otherwise. • Urban exploring – What is it? o The exploration of urban areas. * More precisely (or in the way I am using it) it is the exploration of storm drains, forgotten buildings, steam tunnels et cetera. Places that normally people (except for maintenance crew) would never see. • Why? o All urban explorers explore for different reasons but one common reason is that they are sick of the sanitized experiences that they find wherever most people go and would like to have a little bit of risk in their lives. Imagine this, when you ride a rollercoaster the first time it is new, and so is the first time you go urban exploring, but for each subsequent time you go on that rollercoaster it is the exact same experience! This is what urban explorers try to get away from, every time you go out its different, maybe the floor collapsed in a building you explored a month ago, and now you have a new challenge and a new experience. • Where? o Another thing that is different in all urban explorers its where they go I personally go draining because for two reasons * There are no old buildings around Anaheim. (either they have been restored and/or they are being used) * The are lots of cement storm drain rivers o Some may do just abandoned hospitals or schools some do everything, it all depends on were you live. • Who? o Anyone can explore all they need is to be in decent physical condition o And gear * The most necessary gear is. • Loose fitting clothes • Tennis shoes • Gloves • Lights (2 per person) • A brain o Never would you think you need one of these! • A hat • And a knife or a multi tool • Rope • Water • At least a days ration just in case • A friend • Cell phone * For different situations you may need extra gear • Rubber boots o For draining • A dust mask o If you don’t trust the air in the place • Cigarettes and a lighter o Not for you to use, but if you meet a squatter or a crack head these can be useful to calm them down, they might even show you around. • Hammer o Also useful but not a good idea if confronted by the law • Ethics o Never deface never destroy neverdo something you wouldnt do to your own house • Community o Infiltration.com o Google search “urban exploring” o The community is as diverse as any community and you never know, whilst you are exploring you could always bump into another group. • Keep your eyes you for a nice place to explore, you never know, you might like urban exploring, have a nice day [last edit 1/17/2008 5:43 AM by Ctrl.Alt.De1337ed - edited 2 times]

| | | the ending seems a little weak, I mean, "have a nice day"?? is this your first speech? theres only enough material for about 90 seconds if you talk slow tells us more about the audience not sure what ACADECA is? kids? professors? rehearse it in front of a couple of friends or your parents before you get in front of the crowd

| | | i understand the ending is weak and this is why i posted it here, to refine it the judges are volunteers between the ages of 20-40 i know i need more material (yet again why i posted here) and the speech is supposed to be about 3.5 to 4 min long

so you think i am just writing a speech and asking for help? i am not, i myself am an urban explorer and i though i could seek out others like myself, to ask if i missed something in my speech i have personally written, you are the FIRST people i have asked and you shun me away? what the hell is this? what is the meaning of a community if you are panicked by a simple thing as a judge, i am not going to blame you if the information you give me is wrong or it will loose me points, all i want is for people to HELP me, i can personally filter what advice people give me. i am DISGUSTED [last edit 1/19/2008 2:15 AM by Ctrl.Alt.De1337ed - edited 1 times]

| | | There are many people who come on to this site looking for something for their sooper essay or in your case speech, then get all pissed when nobody wants to help. First off, why dont you use your personal experience to write this speech? OR give us some background information on it so we know your not some big idiot. If you want respect, Then dont act like a little girl when things dont go your way. Nobody was panicked because you mentioned a judge, we didnt sound an alarm alerting everyone, I simply thought it sounded too contest-ish..exploiting things to win? Why dont you show us your speech THEN we decide if we want to help you, dont try to force anyone by whining over it."have a nice day"

| | | i only came here for corrections or suggestions not to exploit information from all of you, if you believe that that is the case then i am sorry if i didnt specify enough in my original post well if i do come out with anything from this i know now to take out "have a nice day" want background info? i have been urban exploring for over a year now, i usually do draining (anaheim CA) in the fullerton creek greenbelt (google it) i am 15 years old i dont know what else you want to know but heres the basics i'll see if i can find pictures if you want to...
there you go, by the way this is when i first started i look much older, have gloves, ditched the swim trunks et cetera so if we can put all this bickering away maybe someone can nudge me in the right way, i'm not stupid and know how to use google et cetera... | | | This maybe just me but take out tennis shoes and add in running shoes cuz that's what most people use usally.Oh go on wikipedia.net(it's like google.) and search up urban exploration to find a little more things you could add to make a fuller speech and take out the crack head thing if you want to be taken seriously hope this helps, and the overall rating of from what i've read of your report then it gets a decent 3/5 maybe a 2/5.And again just my opinion.hope that helped.
