I've also run into some surly girl with a tripod who refused to return a wave at another MD location, and met a terribly conspicuous duo who I had the joy of also surprising with a well-timed exit from a pharmacy building, the lead of whom let out a cry of surprise and the second one who immediately pretended he was busy inspecting a cracks in the asphalt instead of headed toward the building.
Then there's also the common fare of stray kittens, dogs, bees, hobos, delivery guys, clowns, security, etc. A good idea- surprise fellow explorers whenever possible. Always.

only one of those people that day were F/RoX and he may or may not have been drunk and/or hung over.
i did spot you guys early on but everyone else was pretty oblivious. those L/amE guys are pretty blind.

| | | | I met a few people in a fairly large drainage tunnel once, it was actually a pretty cool experience since I had talked to all of them online at least once on another UrbEx forum. Other than that, I haven't seen anyone, which is odd because a lot of the places I go to (caves especially) seem to be pretty high traffic.

| | | | Yes indeed. Me and my group (four, total) were taking a look around Danvers State Hospital--a very popular UE site for a lot of very good reasons. We had been in the building about 20 minutes when we hear some mumbles coming from our left, in a room of the main hall which we were in. We spin around and hit them with our maglights, only to be met by five faces and a 10,000 candle power hand torch. We made friendly for a little while, and had a good laugh when they said they thought we were cops, and had been running from us for about ten minutes. We showed them the room they had been searching for, but we had to cut OUR OWN visit short, because the other group was loud, careless, and had a god-damned hand held search light, while we are quite cautious.
They tore the place down before I got to go in again.
Fuckers.

| | | | We were inside Whitby Psych. when a group of young vandals started throwing bricks / rocks at the windows. We yelled "Stop we're Security" and they ran away as quickly as they could.
On another trip into Whitby Psych. we heard people approaching through the steam tunnels. We hid and waited, we realized they were 'new' explorers and came out of hiding. We scared the crap out of them, but took them under our wing and had a great night. We taught them about quiet movement and communication, we taught them light discipline, we taught them less intrusive entry methods. It was a good night for everyone involved.

(trenchcoats aren't the best way to blend in i know, but they look cool and are black and all... don't own too much dark clothing so yah.)

| | | | On only my 2nd UE outing at the power station in Yonkers my friend and I had worked our way up to one of the upper levels when we heard people coming in from below. We sat tight for a few minutes, but it didn't take long to realize that it was a few kids looking for a place to drink/smoke, etc... We just continued taking pictures and eventually they saw us, got scared and ran.
I guess in that situation yelling out something like...
"Your unit is is covered from an elevated position. I'm not going to ask you again, don't do anything stupid." would probably have worked if needed.
