I headed up here a couple weeks ago, there's all kinds of stuff up there. WWI-WWII era naval batteries, Nike missile launch site and radar site, other random pieces of history.

Here are some photos:

Also checked out another nike missile radar site near San Bruno:

You have some nice photos there with interesting angles. I really ought to get myself back up there and hike around more since there's lots I haven't seen. If only gas were free!

The Marin Headlands are full of history we went there back in August with /-/ooligan where we got inside battery Townsly. The Nike site in Marin headlands is SF-88L (launch facility) and on the top of the ridge is SF-88C (fire control) San Bruno was SF-51. They were all over the Bay Area and around the country. The U.S.A.F also had their own version called BOMARC. Very Cool

If you get a chance go to China camp and check out some of the radio/ radar towers that where part of the Nike missile system. Quite a bit of walking though to get to them so it's a full day outing. I have some pics of one somewhere...

there used to be this really cool NIKE missile site up on ANgel Island that I once checked out when i was a teenager, but i heard that they destroyed it a few years back. too bad; it was unbelievably awesome -- completely underground (had to climb through a shaft for a while) and yeah, it ruled. is there still stuff like that in marin?

Wrong thread but... I LOVE the Sutro Baths. My dad liked to take me there as a kid. Almost every time we went to SF, he had to stop by the Sutro Baths and hang out and tell me about the history of them. I think the baths were a great idea. I wish they would rebuild this and open it back up again. Such a great location, salt water swimming pools, ocean views, like you're in the ocean or a tide pool, but warm, the beautiful roofs... Can you imagine if San Francisco had a functioning Sutro Baths toady how f**king awesome that would be? I would go swimming there all the time!

They just don't do this kind of thing anymore like they used to. I also try and picture the modern San Francisco building an entire island just for a fair, but happening today, now, like they did with TI. How stupendous, how ridiculous, but how grand. These baths must have been incredible.

I saw a History Channel show on Sutro, like 2 years ago. Totally awesome place.

Always wanted to go there, and the sad thing is I drove right by them last year and F'ing forgot to stop and see them.
