| | | Why the hell would you go inside after the cops rolled by and told you not to go inside. You didnt even save it for another day. You just waited till they left and then went inside. I bet you would be surprised if you got arrested. Its like watching COPS and some ignorant motherf-er gets handcuffed and keeps yelling 'i didnt do nuffin'.

"We figure we could wait a half hour to make sure that they didnt swing around again, then head inside. By coincidence or not, the owner drives by, pulls a U'y and parks. He then proceeds to question us about our business, and asks us to leave." True. But is it worth this much hassle for a house?

| | | Posted by Wood Post So my seven day grace period is finally up!! It took forever. Now that I can post I can put my side of the story on this. First, I'm not an adult yet. I have to wait until October for that. Not too long though/. And I actually did that talking despite what Juicebox may have made it sound like. So I take credit for not being busted, even though we weren't doing anything illegal, surprisingly. Here are the pictures I managed to grab before we were booted off the property.
The cars are the cops. As always you can check out my bigger size pictures here - http://www.flickr.com/photos/osp/
|
The reaction you provoke shouldn't surprise you. First, those cops didn't bust you, and they didn't even pat you down for weapons, or ask to search, etc. It's poor judgment taking the pics of the cops while investigating you or your friends; it's different when your NOT connected to scene they're investigating to photograph them. These guys are simply doing their jobs, and most times they're busy. Did anyone say they were sorry for causing that little scene, to the cops, to the owner? This isn't their idea of fun. When you goof like this, try to putting yourself in their shoes. Obviously with the owner right there, this property was being looked after and your shit is weak. If it's posted, even fenced-in, (or if you cause any kind of damage) in NJ that's enough to be charged with misdemeanor trespass. That's a $1200+ ride as you will want a lawyer, and cops know how much this costs. A little respect will save you a lot of trouble at times like this. Never give cops a hard time, once your asked to leave, do so with no lip, or attitude. What everyone said about parking, that site, are all the reasons this went a bit south. I avoid residential areas, and houses like the plague because of scenes just like this. Most houses are a bore anyway. As someone pointed out LEOs do look at this site on occasion, and they also communicate sometimes with your hometown cops, even the DHS (not this though!) as to your activities. Last thing you want is a cop(s) that thinks your out to cause trouble for them, or people the people they serve. Some of the smaller community local NJ cops are pretty sharp, and have a surprising amount of resources at their disposal if they choose. There are plenty of places you can go if you don't make your presence too obvious. Read the numerous threads here about this. It's best to get the pictures, and post them in such a way that doesn't cause the site, the owner, or the cops, hassles or harm. Otherwise it turns into a mess like that. Getting permission is one way to get into sites that are very hard to see otherwise. Sometimes politely asking the local police will get you in, or to the property owner.
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. |

| | | The cops never asked us to leave, and in fact never told us we were doing anything wrong. So I don't really see where that little bit of 'tude is coming from. We were respectful to them, and did what they asked of us, which was tell them what we were doing there and providing them with identification. That was it.

This is very true. I'm always careful where I park to make sure no one is watching me as I walk off.

| | | Think of it from the cops' standpoint: what are these guys doing here? I would think that UE is the last thing on their minds. You could use a reasonable line of thinking and say that they'd think you were a) trespassing, b) looking for a place to do drugs/stash/party, c) about to vandalize something or something else. It does look suspicious, but that comes with the territory, and that's a large part of the appeal. You know what you're doing, but they don't. It sounds like you got away lucky, because they just told you to beat feet and didn't do anything else. Take the lesson and apply it.

| | | To avoid situations like this, I usually park on a main road, then always wear all black and a ski mask so nobody can see me, then as soon as I get out of my car, I lay down flat on my belly and crawl down the sidewalk and all the way up to the location. Some people honk as they drive by, but that rare because I am so flat to the ground. If I have a run in with johnny law....well, try running away as fast as you can. You can also try lighting M-80s and throwing them in their direction, that usually gets them to back down.

| | | I got VERY lucky this week! I stopped at Anamet again to take some more pictures, and halfway through the parking lot I noticed a police car parked right next to the fence...and the cop was watching me. He looked at me, I looked at him, then I turned around and walked back the way I came! He never left his car, and I'm pretty sure I saw him smiling and shaking his head.

My guess is that the parking lot was for "X (the business in question) parking only" and when they saw them walking away from the business they knew they weren't customers. That's the only reason I can come up with. Still, seems very petty; can't imagine someone would care enough to call the cops.
