| | | BillyGoat, I do remember talking to you a long time ago about this, and your post certainly re-sparked my interest in the area. I had been led to believe that the facility was put back into use and lost hope of seeing it myself until I talked to you.
Posted by BillyGoat Thats just great. What exactly is there to gain by keeping this a great big secret? Are you guys like trying to smuggle it out of there and point it at somebody, or just horde for yourselves? Seriously?

Maybe we'd like to keep idjits from going down there and tagging up all over it, getting hurt, or otherwise damaging a really interesting historical site. It's not all that hard to figure out what we're talking about or even find it if you do a bit of research, but most of us that do know about it would prefer to not hand out tourist maps to vandals, taggers, and morons. Every time I go back and visit that place, there is more graffiti, garbage, and damage to the main complex. I don't want to be responsible for accelerating the natural decay of the place by putting the info in neon lights.

The laws that keep us safe, these same laws condemn us to boredom. Without access to true chaos, we'll never have true peace. Unless everything can get worse, it won't get any better." -Chuck Palahniuk |

| | | Very well said Shane. I will add this, nowadays it's getting harder to preserve places like this due to that fact that there are so many idiots trying to get in there. Many times when I post up pictures of different places I've been to I'll have those same clowns asking for information, not to explore, but rather to paint ball, tag and generally fuck the place up.

| | | Yeah, I can understand for that reason. I'm not afraid to admit I've seen tons of graffiti go up since the first time I went with my cousin several years ago. I don't know if you or anyone else has been down there lately though, but last time I talked to him he told me its blocked off down by the prison now not far from the paved road, you can't even drive back to the old gate next to the office and boiler building so it'd be a hella long walk or bike ride now. I do think though, that most all of the damage that was done there though was because it was opened up the way it was, and they built those fishing docks and stuff right there next to it. Maybe I'm naive, but I believe 99% of the people here have enough common sense to not do that sort of thing and being as such could be entrusted with the info of it where they have the opportunity to check it out themselves. Its just a difference of opinion and thought process I guess. Anyways, I really didn't intend to stir anything up even if it looks like I might have been. I just didn't like being called out like I was a liar about the whole thing. I'll go back to lurking now and maybe in another 4 years I'll make a thread with something remotely cool and valuable to the community.

| | | I was just down there today. I kinda forgot that I need to bring a bicycle to make the last few miles of the trip, though; no motor vehicles are allowed on any of the remaining roads into the area! DOINK! I'm an idiot. So anyway, here's the last remains of where there was once a guard shack. Just before the road goes no-motor-vehicles, there's something weird lookin' that's surrounded in lots of concertina wire. No clue what that's all about, but it's not what I'm interested in, I'm sure. Furthermore, here is also where someone failed at Softgloss XS.
Also, I know what's behind the Florida Door. It's really nothing that's worth entering to see... [last edit 11/11/2008 2:42 AM by EvilSpork - edited 2 times]

| | | Just don't go nude down there near said Florida Door. I've personally had the experience of getting a mosquito-bitten wang in the Everglades before. No, I wasn't nude... just had to stop for a pee break on a long drive... and the little heat-seeking missiles landed on the first thing they saw. Ahh, good times.
