Stealthy? Most of this stuff requires nothing of the sort. It just takes a bit of acting skills and thinking on your feet.

At my first attempt at getting into the backlot at Islands of Adventure (which was during the Halloween Horror Nights event) I had a nice little surprise. I walked right through an employee only gate that led into the backlot, expecting to find a mostly empty parking lot, instead I walked into a parking lot FILLED with Orlando police. There were at least 20 of them standing around about 15 squad cars! Apparently, for Halloween Horror Nights, Universal Studios brings in a whole mess of cops to deal with the extra rowdy drunk crowds (they really push selling alcohol during it) and I was lucky enough to choose the employee gate that led to their temporary base of operations! At that point, had I freaked out and turned back to go out the door I came through or hesitated, they would have suspected that something was up and checked it out. I did the only logical thing, I said "hi!" to a few of them and walked right past them into the backlot. Nobody stopped me, nobody really even gave me a second glance after I greeted them. I wasn't wearing an employee ID badge, I wasn't even wearing anything remotely close to a uniform. In fact I think I was wearing a Hooters t-shirt and some cargo shorts. They just assumed that I belonged there, because I acted like I did.

It's a pretty natural human tendency to trust other people. Most of the time, if you act and look like you belong somewhere, people will assume that you are allowed to be there. Give it a shot, you'd be surprised at how often it works. Mind you, I wouldn't start off with somewhere like Disney that requires ID badges and very specific personal grooming habits, but a hotel, hospital, or office building are good places to start. As with anything, practice makes perfect.

"Because there's no possibility of real disaster, real risk, we're left with no chance for real salvation. Real elation. Real excitement. Joy. Discovery. Invention. I suppose that's why whenever I walk into employees only areas where one of my friends works, everyone just assumes I'm supposed to be there.

That particular incident had to be terrifying, though. I seriously doubt I could have kept my composure if I unexpectedly ran into that many cops. Very quick thinking on your part.

Back lots are easy, I've worked for every park in the hell that is Central Florida. Just look pissed off about something, talk on a cell phone or pretend your hiding for a ciggie break. If you can act like your suppose to be there security won't bug you to much, more so if your carring a bag that a uniform could be put into. Disney is the only one you may run into trouble at and that's only because of the MK tunnels, even years ago you had to display an ID to get away with doing anykind of real walking down there (and besides, they smell funky).

We've done Disney before for UE but those rat *$&%#$(@& took out my primairy goal. Remind me to beat them with a stick for that.

Boardwalk and Baseball is totally toast with the exception of the stadium, we spent a lot of time running threw that place since we had the owners permission to run wild. I think most people forgot it was there until they desided to build that huge complex there. Depending on the equipment thats in the area we may still be able to access the stadium.

Splendid China is mostly toast, last time we where there nearly everything was gone and it still had active security. While we're down I'll have to drive out that way and check it out.

Water Mania ( Those Q@#*($@&( keep tearing down my childhood! Someone hit them with a stick for me) has already been demo'ed.

Cypress Gardens has re-opened and is thriving (Good! I loved that place as a kid).

Either way, PM either myself or Bryan if your intersted since we'll be in the area this week.

And for the last time Reedy Creek is OWNED by Disney, it's there own personal way to keep Orlando and Orange County in they're collective pockets. Reedy Creek controls the flow of the local cops onto the property and besides they can't even be on Disney Property unless they're invited because it still does qualify as "privite property". Often the cops are only found at the front area's of the parks due to shop lifters and the occasional trouble makers, otherwise security (in all the parks) handle the problems with the exception of Universal.

Seaworld keeps exactly three cops on property at all times, they can be found beside main frist-aid beside the Whale and Dolphin Stadium. Normally at Seaworld the "undercover shoppers" are security or other employees in MDSE who signed up for the three or five hours of Overtime.

Oh the joys of working for theme parks for collectivly 7 years.

Yes, I'm a bitch but we all knew that.

Well From workinn at Sea world And Disney, I can tell you this : Sea world don't dive a S as much as Disney. As long as you don't friking get too close to the animals for someone to ask you, you're good. And theres' not much too see in SW, everything is cramped into places so that if you're wandering between the tanks, its pretty obvius you're not supposed to be there. but since I worked there for so long, I guess seeing all this "Incredible" stuff is not incredible anymore

Disney... well thats another story. The tunnels are big, my dad used to drive the armored truck to pick up money. and the subway still friking expensive... well I guess its subway anyways. you can play " I got lost" thing, prolly get you free. I went to universal for free back when I worked in SW, and me and my friend went to the cafeteria and ate there. I actually went to a guy and said " Hey man, I'm new here and I forgot where's the cafeteria" and he showed me. Sneaking into parks its all about Homework. As long as you blend in, you're good to go.

And don't be stupid, some rides have "Intrusion" detectors that will see you on camera and sound and alarm, and you'll be instantly caught.

Sneaking around Disney parks where or when you're not supposed to be there is a great way to get arrested. Exploring active rides is a guaranteed way to get caught, if not worse.

Disney hotels and service roads are another story. I'm not going to give any exact details, but there is a "restricted" road behind the magic kingdom that gives some good views of the train/monorail hangar and a whole bunch of utilities. No one ever stopped me from driving through, probably because I wasn't stopping to take pictures or trying to turn into the car entrance to the tunnels.

Walking up the stairs of Disney hotels and just opening doors can bring you to some suprising places that the hotel guest is not supposed to see. If you walk around what is behind some of the doors, you are probably asking for trouble but I never had a problem with just looking through doors and snapping a quick picture. Disney security patrolled some of these spots, and the only thing I ever heard was "that door was supposed to be locked" as I was told to leave. The acting lost thing does work in situations like these.

To see the ride boneyards, soundstages, and good stuff like that at Universal is actually rather simple. If you go to the park when they have the Mardi Gras or Macy's Parade, they take lots and lots of park guests to through out beads or hold the balloons. Ask about this about an hour before the parade is about to start and if there is any openings, they will take you backstage. They keep a pretty good eye on you before the parade telling you what do do, but after the parade is over, there are so many people wandering around that nobody seems to keep track of the park guests from the employees, and you could walk around all over the backstage areas of the park (with the exception of inside of rides or to the far end of the parks).

There's a check point between IOA and Studios as well. Impossible to get past since they check for employee ID there. So you're pretty much confined to one park and a very limited areas. There's some things IN the park that are far more interesting and less risky to access than the backs of buildings to be honest.

Actually that road you're talking about ( the service one) yeah its pretty cool and you can see where they maintain the trains a monorails. but you don't need Id and anyone can drive there. Hell when I work there I got lost 14 times before I knew my way.

I've actually driven around a whole lot looking for roads like that in Disney that are rather interesting that don't require going through a security booth. In doing so I discovered all sorts of free ways to park free, but the closest thing to seeing stuff like you see on the road behind Magic Kingdom is the road going to the Epcot hotels where you see some of the backs of epcot's buildings which isn't at all that interesting. Anyone know of any other roads of interest for me to drive around in disney that I can get "lost" on and not get arrested if I get stopped?

pretty much keep driving arround until you DO get lost, b/c thats the only way to find places. Any place that requires you to have an ID card or sumthing is off the limits for you. We should all start UEing disney and post images of like back roads, make a new UEing location, with different parts like "Underground" and "Backstage" and "Roads and building" N stuff

If you're ever in Berlin, there's an amusement park that has been abandoned for years (the prices at the concession stand was still in DM's not Euros). No security.. It's a large park with lots of old rides and paddle boats still at the pond and everything.

If you're in GA, Six flags is relatively tight about their security around the back entrance.

The back paths are terribly confusing, but unless you like riding rides, you'll just be like everyone else once your in.

I was thinking about this the other night... What's going on with the Miracle Strip in Panama City, FL? Is it all demolished by now? I know Cypress Gardens bought their roller coaster, but that's all I've really heard about the site. If anything is left of the park, that might be a pretty cool place to check out.

Heres some pictures I took when I was up there in January 2005. All from the outside of the property.

when i was on vacation at universal, i got bored and eventually found myself in an empty backlot. i walked around back there for a little while and eventually found myself at islands of adventure. that was pretty fun.

on the way i saw a bunch of warehouses and a parking lot which included the car from ghostbusters. i also saw some partial dinosaurs which i assume were from jurassic park. i only wish i brought my camera with me.

blah blah.

Have you been to Six Flags Over Georgia lately? You could probably climb around on the coasters and they'd be too lazy to even look twice at you.

Yeah, I used to work there. We had an all-night group once and I worked it and everyone had to leave at six and we went to get breakfast and brought some back to our other workers and then NO ONE at ALL was in the park so we walked around, climbed the Freefall, the Batman Stunt Show and other stuff. Pretty cool.

when I was about 7 I worked as an acting extra on a few movies in the backlot of Universal studios. I havent been there in years but I remember back then you could walk around and see all this movie memorabilia (the car from ghostbusters, the love rock from problem child 2 etc.) Soundstages where they filmed gameshows, movies, tv shows, etc. (wich you could easily walk into, dead ride parts (big ass king kong was back there, I guess he had broke because this was when the ride was still in full force). Also when I was the same age I had filmed a commercial for christmas at Universal wich required us to be in the park at 2 a.m.. It was crazy we went from the wardrobe trailers to a section of the park where we had to frolic around while tons of fake snow came down, and all that other happy shit. But we had access to everything, catering, the school trailer (where we spent our breaks due to us having a certain amount of break time and school time while working a 12 hour day. child labor laws.). It was insane, I used to even sneak around the sound stage when we werent filming. Also this is a bit off topic but when I was an extra in another movie in Sanford (where they had a huge carnival set up in the parking lot of an abandon strip mall) we got to hang out in an abandon movie theater between filming. the place had catering and all that other crap. If you want to do good UE become an actor hah.

Yeah, that's a big part of why I got into theatre years ago. Being a part of the backstage operations provides a bit of the magic "where you're not supposed to be" charge.
