| | | I'm going up this weekend. TAP/Nel- The rig you are talking about may be better off left un-set up if this place is going to be reusniéd. I'll come back with a report, ov course! Now I just gotta scare up the rest of the UAM unit.
Urban development is what happens when the planners are trying to figure out what to do. By the time they have it sorted, the development has already happened. |

| | | I went there this friday from 15h00 to 18h00, the light was very nice by 17h00. A couple of kid made the trip through the place at the same time. The place has decayed much, much not as much as Dow. In fact because of the cleaning and a bit of repair here and there, the place is not that bad. Except that the passage toward the silos is blocked. New B&W pictures soon.

There is still a way to go there, if you mean when you are standing on top of it. You have to be small to get in, but it will not be accessible during the winter, the ice/snow will block the passage. It is outdoors.

I stopped counting the number of movies being shot there about 5 years ago. Tons of movies are shot there. it's been like that since it closed basically. A few big Hollywood prods were partly shot there too. Fav movie locations in Mtl for big prods : Malt Plant, Dow (new section - almost a full time movie set), Wellington Tunnel and Old Port (to make it look like France or european cities)... Movies include : Driven (Silvester Stallone with a F1 car in the Wellington Tunnel), taking Lives, Snake Eyes (shot in the Forum), RollerBall, Whole 9 yards (and the sequel), Gothika, Sum of all fears, Battlefield Earth (shot in a number of abandonned locations), The Score, a few of the Highlanders movies (including one shot in the then-abandonned Jean-Talon train station, today a SAQ) and soooooo many others!

I think movie shots in abandonned locations are great, - they are everything BUT annoying! - they are a fantastic way to preserve some small pieces of our urban history. History that for many has long been forgotten. We would have no souvenir whatsoever of the old Hospice Auclair before it was turned into condos if it was'nt for "L'homme qui jouait du trombone" and "Léolo" that were shot there! This being said, I think Nostra kinda answered the who owns it, etc. For the second part of the questions, I'll make it clearer for you SPEK : I don't mind at all the last movie being shot there because (insert previous post here... "I stop counting...") SPEK : I love you too. Nothing personal. [last edit 11/9/2005 2:08 AM by maZe - edited 1 times]

| | | Thank you Nostra-youppie for the useful info. And thanks to all others for the comments on movie-making. It seems that the project of making movies in places such has the plant has been used before. It also seems some of you are divided over wether it is a good thin or if it is just getting redundant.
Here is a pic anyways:

| | | Depends what you wanna do with the footage. A fiction-based movie? A documentary? A goth porn flick? Your choice. A few friends of mine studying in visual art were very glad to shoot some stuff there. Getting excited about this place sure is redundant but it's still an interesting building.
