| | | UK UE Magazine Launched < on 8/20/2005 11:26 AM >
| | | Hello one and all! Myself and Sam-uk (http://www.nobodythere.co.uk) have been working (very hard) together to produce a UK UE magazine and we're now ready to launch it! It's a magazine that allows the UK UE scene to contribute and represent its diversity. The first issue is themed "industry" and it's got tours etc in it, and articles, and a cartoon, and some nice coloured pics as well as nice black and white ones, an area map for new(ish)bies, and it's only £2! Each issue will be themed, with Asylums, Drains, Mines, Military and Oddballs being predicted other themes. With the first issue we had to be a little bit cloak and dagger as there were delays and hiccups, and we weren't sure if it would happen until we actually saw it for real. As of the second issue (Asylums) we will be able to be more open about asking for contributions. Thanks muchly to all who have contributed to the first issue! Also apologies for any links we've missed, we wrote some bits a long time ago, but there'll be more issues and more opportunities to be in the next ones. You can buy issue 1 via the magazine's very own website here: http://www.section61.com The site also features issue relevant info, a preview page and answers to any questions you might have, check it out and grab yourself a copy! Cheers, Jondoe & Sam, Eds [last edit 8/20/2005 11:54 AM by Jondoe_264 - edited 1 times]

| | | Cool, an actual printed UE mag, good for you! Good luck, if this works out we should talk about expansion overseas. I have wanted to do some UE print work myself. Coming from a journalism education and print background (parents started own magazine years ago) I think it could be done. And if you want contributions for the next issue, I have some shots to share, as well as being able to write

It's an incredibly general thing, with approx three locations per County, so no specifics, no location address details or anything more specific than what County they are in. They are the type of locations that are well known within the established UK UE community, featured on many major UK UE websites. The difference being that it is possible to find out more specific details online, whereas the magazine does not detail any specific info. The idea behind it was to illustrate to newbies how evenly spread and diverse UK UE locations are, without giving away any specifics. People would still have to put in a bit of ground work to find themselves exploring any of the featured locations. Cheers, JD [last edit 8/25/2005 10:37 AM by Jondoe_264 - edited 1 times]

Really?? For the whole of the UK? Sounds like a pretty big list! How are you getting on with Scotland? Chris...
We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit. |

Hey Chris, No your right that would be a mighty big list, it doesn't cover every UK County. It's just a general even spread from North to South. It does concentrate more on England, but that's because with this first issue it was kept under wraps until we were ready to go, and with Myself and Sam working on it both being England based that's just how it went. But now with it out there we're able to approach people to contribute for future issues and not limited as we were with the first issue. Cheers, JD

| | | hello! yes, we have one tiny section in this issue with info about abandoned industrialness in rural france. since we hadn't advertised what we were doing we took pot luck what was available at that time and not online already. i'll check with jondoe but i should think this section will stay, since although it's a uk publication, people do travel, and it's interesting to compare what type of ue opportunities are around elsewhere. so, as long as the mag doesn't double and make the printing costs enormous, we're fairly open minded about what grabs our interest and what we include. cheers! sam

| | | What a brilliant idea! I've just bought myself a copy! A printed resource for people who love UE is bloody good idea and will also help people new to the scene. Maybe you could do a section for newbies in a future issue, that could be interesting. Good luck with it and I can see myself being a regular buyer!

| | | I ordered a copy on Friday morning and received it in the mail last night, so first off I have to say: thanks for the speedy delivery. Section 61 is a great little magazine, vey well thought out with good photos and design, and the writing is clear and informative. The only problem is that I wish the magazine was bigger and longer--I mean that as a compliment. After I finished reading it, I wanted to read more. I sort of wish more people in the UE community would do something like this. Websites are great, but they are easy to do and there's so many now, almost too many. Publishing a little 'zine somehow seems a little more personal, and it's format encourages the publisher to focus more on specific themes or buildings with each issue. Plus, it's hard to look at a website while you're sitting on the toilet. Nice work, guys.

I live in the states so I should be getting my copy some time next week. I have been in a stall before on campus, and the person next door is feverishly typing away. I hope he wasn't looking at porn, because there have been a massive jump in masturbatory cases at the library within the past several months (My current team research project is crime on campus, and this is one of the topics we decided to divulge into!)
