When I was working in heavy equipment operation, most of the crew would just tuck their key up under a little ledge or something somewhere near the door of a machine. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people do this, so whenever you see heavy equipment, it might be fun to see if you can find the key. I would never start anything up, in fear of getting in a whole lot of shit, but it'd be cool to take some shots of yourself sitting in one

when i was 12 they were building a freeway near my place, one of our games was starting the machines up friday night and letting em idle till empty, the bigger tracktors with no keys were often left in gear to stop em from starting, but a smart 12 year old would get em started

I would imagine they have the oxygen for use in combination with acetylene, for a high temperature cutting/welding torch.

I would theorize that it was "leaking" from a pressure release valve. When not actively refrigerated, the liquid oxygen would boil to gas, and it would seem reasonable to have a release valve that releases just enough gas to keep the pressures inside reasonable, yet not leak out all of the oxygen stored up.

The pushbutton ones are actually harder to start, they have a keypad coded lock that cuts all electrical power and any chance of fuel flow until the correct password is entered. The *old* ones are universally keyed, they get stolen all the time. Never used a jackhammer attachment, but that machine is a turbo diesel! I used to work at a place with S300's, now we have Case 95XT's and a Cat 962G.

generators!

Not being critical here, just informative.

The first pic looks like a Oxy/Acetalyn torch not propane.

The second look more like Mig/tig wielders than generators.

also, the propane torch said "propane" on the tank, but nearby we found an acetylene tank.

I think it's a combo job. Why would there be a brass ground clamp on a generator? The word under the wire between "AC/DC" and "generator set" is the correct length and lettering to be "welder", once the obscured letters were imagined in place.

Welders suck a lot of power, so it would make sense to have a generator built in. I do wonder about the safety of using what is essentially portable lightning in close proximity to a gasolene-powered engine

Well as my partner said before that the bobcats were keyless, he was incorect at another glance the keyholes were above the chair which doesn't make much sence but who am i to say i dont have to drive one. But we went back looking for the mystery keypad and came up with nothing but an old fashoned keyed starter. never the less it was quite cool to see a fleet of equpment like that in an area where we are alot.

I've seen these machines used to weld stuff really close to gasoline-powered engines and nothing blew up...but in this case I'd think the engine/gas tank are probably far enough away from the welder not to cause problems.

Yeah i know some kids that got drunk and drove around in a fucking water truck. They pretty much grinded the gears so much and fuck it up so much that it wouldnt work anymore. The keys were under the seat.
