According to this, you'd most likely only get a misdemeanor and a fine, but I wouldn't rely on it because there are no specifics.

Worst case scenario = misdemeanor trespassing.

Cool cool. thanks guys. This would be my first time doing so. i thought if it's on a construction zone it may be something serious. also there's the scare of being labelled a "terrorist" or something dumb. i also live in maryland, the land of ass backward laws.

No no no no... Al Quaida was going after TRAINS next... not CRANES. You should be ok.

Construction sites in florida, are an issue.

But only if you get caught. ;)

I'm impressed your only question is about getting caught. When I was getting ready for my first climbing, I was full of questions, none of them about being caught.

Would exploring a hotel under construction be the same? I noticed cameras, but there would be no reason to check the cameras if I didn't fuck with anything. It's also by a 24 hr restaurant which is the only reason I'd be worried.

Keep in mind that construction materials can be expensive. Just one large stack of wood can be worth thousands of dollars. If a construction site has poor security, its materials will get stolen.

Well, I work at the 24 hour restaurant right near the site and haven't noticed physical security, and would do recon before going into it. But I hadn't thought of that. I figured the cameras would be checked if there was an incident, and action would be taken from there. But that's also the way they use cameras in schools so maybe it's a flawed thought.

Yeah, they would almost certainly be more concerned with looking for people transporting out large amounts of materials. Is the site walled off, or open on all sides?

A lot of camera systems now will not record unless they sense movement. Merely being in frame, you will be photographed. Recommend checking it out during the day with binoculars. Look for cameras around the points of entry to the site, to the building, and to each floor. Also check around any materials/equipment/fuel storage. Avoid anything around those areas that looks suspicious and you'll be better off for it.

Unlikely that they would post a camera on the crane though...

Stick to state construction sites. Ones for colleges and stuff are almost never secured; you'll see tool chests with several thousand dollars of tools sitting unlocked and unchained; ditto for all kinds of neat gear. Leave it all alone and you'll probably be safe.

Now, that fine can include civil penalties. The insurance company for the site will charge huge fees to the company, so they might come after you for that money. Stay on the ladder and catwalk sections of a crane, and I suggest staying off the boom (which has no railing) until you have a harness or ambivalence about life.

Open on all sides, and as it stands now there's no one POE as there aren't even walls up. I checked today randomly between 9 and 4:30 (while I was at work) no security other than the cameras which are pointing at what will become doors as the dry wall goes up.

I think a fine would be the worst thing you could get IF caught. Just make sure its known (if caught) that you are not breaking or stealing anything, any good law enforcement officer will know your true intentions.

Construction companies obviously dont want the huge liability of someone getting hurt on their property, so if you're just there poking around, most of the time they will just kick you out.

Go look. Seriously, they'll leave lights on and usually there's nobody in there. Sometimes there is though. Knock, and ask to pee.
