SFUSD to sell surplus land to S.F. State, pull in $11M
By: Amy Crawford | 04/10/12 9:59 PM

The Board of Education voted Tuesday to sell a school building that has been vacant for a decade in a deal with San Francisco State University that will net the school district nearly $11 million.

appeared in one of my many Google Alerts. After chatting with Ms. Bonnie (of Bonnie n' Clyde) we decided to make a visit (my first). I fell in love with the site, and over the next few days became nearly infatuated with the site, spending hours photographing the people the called this place home (more on that later) and the site it's self. The transformation of this site was truly amazing. However upon a recent return trip I discovered newly chained doors and new signs around the site. Perhaps the beginning of the end has began for this wonderful local gem.

Anyway I'm bound to have several batches of photos, but this is what I've got edited so far. I'm purposely holding back the more personal shots until the last batch, for reasons as I can only describe as paranoid. Hope you enjoy:

1) Others Toil for the Fat...

2) Paint Me Timeless

3) Missing Time

4) Stop for Art

5) 3D Clock

6) Express Delivery

7) Evil

8) Now Pay Attention

9) Hi, My Name is Art and I'll be Your Locker This Evening

10) Hiiiiigh Life!

11) ...and the Fans GO WILD!

12) Don't Play Me For A Fool!

Thanks for looking!

Great photos IS. I like what you did in that auditorium with all the different colors. That must have taken some time.

I'd be interested to hear about your interactions with the people. We bumped into a couple of residents while we were there and it certainly got me thinking about what it would be like to live in there.

Amazing lighting with all your shots. It works perfectly in such a colorful location.

According to the district, six sites are now officially declared surplus property within its system and two are vacant. Lee has previously suggested that a site near ---sion and --th Streets would be ideal for workforce housing for teachers and police officers.

Yee said. “It’s a lot easier to sell something than it is to create new buildings.”

Interesting linked article. Anybody know of this second vacant site? Yee sounds like a typical school district idiot like in San Jose area. Keep selling those school properties to make way for high density housing. Now you have more kids, so you have to bus them to another area that has space for schools. Mis16

Yep vectored, the 1 you mentioned above was offered to the occupy protesters when they wanted to clear them out of justin herman plaza.
There's another 1 being renovated now (it was always connected to the new "active" building) There are lots of others but mostly are just used for storage or still have active wings

I.S. had a blast rolling in tha tubes (haha) drop dead awesome pix, 1,7,8,10& of course 11 if I had to pick faves. <3 to watch u work ur magic

I knew I would find more of these. I've been here too. I really didn't have the time to explore, so I wasn't there long. I never made the time to go back, and now it looks like I might not get to.

Knowledge is the only asset no one can take from you. It is the most powerful and most valuable thing you can own. Everyone knows experience >= education. Knowledge is a weapon, and a tool, and a key. Knowledge leads to wisdom, and open mindedness. Knowledge is free, but has incredible value.
