| | My first UE experience! < on 3/8/2010 7:10 AM >
| | | hey everyone! My name is Anne, from Toronto, and new to this whole UE thing. I only found out such thing exists about a week ago and have become OBSESSED. Today was my first exploration and it was a TON of fun. I took my friend a long with me who has never heard of UE before, but was also so fascinated. Our first stop was at the King Edward hotel. We found the elevators quickly and no one stopped us or anything. We got to the 16th floor and planned on walking to the 17th, however the door was locked We found more stairs leading to the 17th floor as well, but it was also locked. Then a cleaning lady that works at the hotel said she will try and get us up. She said one of the service elevators always goes up there. We tried all 3 and none took us up. She then called security to try to get us up, but the guy said no one is allowed up there right now We were really sad. We really looked forward to the crystal ballroom. Next stop was George st. We got into the Thomas Meredith House which was AMAZING. There was SO much to photograph. We also ran into a person who is a member of this site which told us all the history of the place and helped us get in. Wonderful day! Here are some photos:

| | | Some people do this thing for years before realizing there is an actual term for it (urban exploration). It's an ambiguous term and could apply to someone who just looks for spirits and orbs, enjoys photographing old buildings, curious to know what items can be found in an old house, model shoots in abandoned locations, historic building research and old ghost towns. There is no one definition, which may be why you never heard of it until now. There are a lot of people from the Toronto area as well as Toronto meets with other likeminded individuals. You will fit in well here - welcome to the community.

It also sounds like it could apply to just exploring cities with no emphasis at all on decay or abandonment. Or at least according to all the random people adding pictures to my UE flickr pool. Anyway, these pictures show promise. I'm a fan of the found photograph of the dude buried in sand. Hopefully you'll get your next set up soon enough.

| | | Great shots!! You may want to try putting spaces between the photos when you post them, it makes it easier on the eyes.

| | | Thanks guys! And thanks Jono for all the facts and info. In regards to the term UE, I didn't even know people explore the city in these kinds of ways, and didn't know there is such a big community of people who do so. I never even thought of exploring abandoned places before the last week or two.
Glad you like the photos

I don't know how familiar you are with George Street in general, but watch your back... it is pretty cracked out.

| | | I second Yokes' comment; that street is pretty rough. By the way, you were shooting film as well as digital; have you seen any of the results yet? j->
