Going Out Seeking Truth
| | Biggest mistake? < on 6/23/2009 6:46 PM >
| | | We all make them. Whats your biggest mistake to date that you have done while exploring? Mine was last night. Me and some buddies of mine drove 20 min to get to our start point when I realized I forgot my camera battery on the charger. After we got the battery we decided to set out on the last leg of our trip an hour late. When we got there we got set up to take some photo's when I realized I again forgot my battery. The night ended up being a giant bust and we ended up empty handed after a long tiring hot muggy bug filled night. I felt like such an idiot. Lets learn from each others mistakes so we don't make them ourselves. I learned make a checklist before you go and double and triple check you got everything.

| | | I still feel like my biggest mistake was from about 1993-2006 when I didn't do any UE. So many places I could have gone in those years that are no longer there.

| | | Running from the cops for about 1/4 mile in a brush-filled field covered by 2 feet of snow while carrying all my gear. I made it. And then I pretty much instantly became sick for about a week after that. My lungs were a mess after that.

| | | Procrastinating about getting into an old power station here for too long. By the time I snuck onto the grounds one night, it was completely demolished. The guard dogs were still there, though.

| | | Mine was trusting other explorers. Cant always trust other explorers you run into. Was at Marlboro about 6 years ago and ran into a group of 4/5 other explorers. Well the cops had found their cars and called them back on their radio. My group just kept walking on grounds because we werent caught. The other group actually told the cops where we parked, how many there was of us and that we were still in there. They called out 8 people on the loud speaker. Now how would they know that with out the other kids telling them. Thats why i dont always trust some kids i run into while exploring.

well, there IS a difference between punk kids looking for a creepy place and actual explorers, where actual explorers are worse. Be lucky you're alive... My worst mistake not cleaning a cut I got while jumping a staircase. It got infected FAST and now oozes this tasty white goo.

| | | As mentioned earlier in this thread, not exploring a place when I had the chance. There was one place in Mississauga that was abandoned when I moved there. One day, I decided I was going to check it out and when I drove by, the bulldozer was putting on the finishing touches. Blargh!
Gone for a while. Be back when I'm back. |

| | | Let's see... 1. Carry your own gear. 2. Research your locations better. 3. Read signs. They have useful information 4. Turning back to soon. 5. Not taking enough risks, far enough. others I haven't had too much problems with yet but others have 1. Parking, Parking, Parking. 2. Knowing when to HERE. Hide. Evade. Run. (social)Engineer.

Haha nice try, sis! It wasn't the actual running that did me in...I can run. It was sucking in sub-freezing air while my body was sweating from sprinting in about 3 layers of winter clothes. I ended up with a lot of fluid in my lungs and them being really sore for days.

| | | Ehhh I forgot my camera once. It sucks I didn't get any pictures, but I still have the memories which will last a life time. I accidently forgot that drain sludge is quite slippery. My ass meeting the bottom of the drain quickly reminded me of this important fact.
