I wrecked hard today.

And I mean hard. I was running full steam across a steel beam on a building I was climbing and I fell, the good thing is that I did not fall OFF the three inch thick steel beam fell hard into my crotch and pushed my piercing right up.

So I never thought of that, I thought I'd be bruised and bloodied if I fell but I never expected that I'd fuck up my piercings.

So in light of that, I would like to remind anyone who is climbing or running that those piercings are a bad spot to be hurt on.

Be conscious not only of your body when you fall, be conscious not to land on your piercings!

just wondering why u had to run across a 3-inch beam? was something chasing u?

Ahemm...Well...No.

I was showing off. And seeing how far I could run on a steel beam in my new shoes. Total honesty there.

Is this not just a poorly veiled post by the OP to allure to the fact that he's got his old man pierced and await the proceeding replies oohs and arghs and that's gotta hurts? For surely there needn't be a thread started to remind people with piercings that getting them caught up, snagged or forcefully whacked on impact is a bad move?

Plah . . .

Dude, I thought that is why people got them in the first place?!?!

Rings and watches are also no-nos.
When I was a firefighter, one of the guys on my rig lost his index finger when his wedding ring caught on a ladder as he fell.

I so have a visual of that now. OUCH.

How high was the beam? As painful as that sounds, I think I would have rather fallen off.

Funny thing was that it wasn't all that high. It was a handrail/fence on a rooftop.
I still have to take pictures of my bruises, wow they hurt and my legs are black.

With an uncontrolled fall, any landing that doesn't cause permanent injury is a good one. He had the right idea except his **** got in the way!

I gotta laugh. It wasn't me and he didn't really wreck anything. It's not like he used it anyway. Anytime I did shit like that I was superdrunk, yes all one word. And it didn't hurt. I still have a toe nail that has been trying to grow back for almost 3 years now due to a manhole/drinking accident. More the manhole's fault though. Not one of my brews weight 150 lbs. Take your medicine.

I drink gasoline for breakfeast and beer for dinner!

Never thought about the risks of normal rings. Good point.

A friend of mine lost three of her fingers in an accident at work. She worked on a machine that would sew in logos etc on clothing and when she was adjusting the spindle, one of her co-workers turned on the power to the machine. Her rings got caught and her fingers were literally ripped off. She required extensive surgery to her hand to repair the damage to the ligaments, muscles and nerves but it won't be the same. Fortunately, two of the three fingers were successfully reattached.

The sad part was that if she was not wearing her rings, at most, some skin would be ripped off.

Be careful folks.

Aren't I the chatty one today? The winds coming off of Kearsage have got to be 45+,likely more in gusts, just inhospitable to working on my van...so I'll relate some more silly stories....
...think it was four years back, when my brer was nice enough to set up a small group w/tickets to Blue Man Group in Boston, which was enjoyable. On the way back to the carpark, clever boy that I am,thought I would save some time skirting a 4' high rusty chainlink fence. Not that I had the keys even....it was my birthday, and I had only one beer before the show,so I was keyed up for murdering pints of stout. This wasn't my first nasty fence, and I was sure my grip was sound,so when I felt a little pinch down there I was a little surprised.
In the whole couple of minutes I "saved",I did a hasty self-exam. No blood, good to go. But when I woke up with pain on Sunday and actually got a visual on what I had done.well,it was too late anyways. One tear was deserving of stitches, the other not. Honestly, the tetanus shot hurt like a bastard for two weeks, much worse than the mobile yam-bag piercing.
Don't pierce and climb, and protect the plumbing at all costs.

I'd say yes, pretty much completely. The vine somehow hit my lip ring, and pulled it up, closing the ring against my lip with the vine inside it. I had to slowly pull it out while on the wrong side of a fence on a busy street on the way into an abandonment.

Can you imagine the cops strolling up at that point? Priceless!

It much more common than many realize.
The weakest link concept applies here; metal>bone>ligaments>tendons>skin.

Be wary of long, loose clothing around the neck and head as well.

You should be careful about exposed tats too. I slipped one time and took a little chunk off of one of mine.

Exactly.

When working with power tools I always take off my wedding band, I wear short sleeve shirts and make sure no articles of clothing are dangling loose. I also remember to take off my watch and put it in my pocket.

Better safe than sorry.
