| | | | required gear for any trip < on 2/12/2009 7:08 PM >
| | | I know this has probably been asked a thousand times... but what should be required gear prior to going to any new or unknown location. I'm pretty new to it all but my idea in which i should bring is generally a flashlight and a camera... but apart from that I'm kinda clueless I've heard one should always bring HEPA masks etc but it all depends... so any tips or ideas are greatly appreciated.

| | | Required? Nothing is 'required,' but I'll be glad to tell you the things I like to have... Lighting based on how much dark I expect to find. I always carry multiple lights if I'll be underground or in a large building. Good puncture-resistant boots are nice on broken construction, although less key in drains or active sites you're sneaking through. Camera is nice. For low-light pictures you'll want some kind of tripod, or the ability to use the environment to hold your camera. Water if you'll be out for hours is pleasant. Gloves to protect your hands are good in drains, abandonments, and active sites all. Note that not much will protect you from razor wire. A phone to call for help, if you're worried about the chances of an immobilizing injury. A bag to hold your respirator and stuff, as it's impossible to look casual wearing a face mask. Respirator...I just recently went in a hotel and came out with a wicked plague of some sort. Waders for drains. Makes life better, generally. Head lamp for tunnels. Free hands are useful hands. Crayon for marking things ('This way to escape the maze of doom'). Batteries for whatever electronic stuff you can't be parted with while exploring. Decide what you need based on what you're doing. I'd say pack light and make note of what items you wish you had; or you can do what I did and carry everything and discard what you don't use on trips.

| | | Please use the "search" feature before posting threads you think may have been discussed a million times. Chances are they have, and you will have tons of helpful responses to dig through! Much easier then starting a new thread and waiting for replies. This alone has a shitton of useful information! Good luck! http://www.uer.ca/...id=1&threadid=4803
