~ Wolfheart's Miscellaneous ~

I've been posting so much lately, that - before I really gonna get anyones nervous - I think that from this day I will put my photos under one topic, at least when there are just few photos. Maybe if I get LOT of photos from somewhere, I still could make whole new topic, but... Well, you know.

Today I did check one house that I've photographed just once before. Lot of driving, but sadly I didn't get good photographing mood. Whole place is so damned gloomy, it is in the middle of nowhere in the middle of gloomy forest, its 'garden gone wild' is gloomy and whole house is god damned gloomy. It is even painted so damned strange way, that it is spooky. And there were footprints on the snow, so that was main reason for lost photograph mood. For me it is really important that places where I shoot is really and literally forgotten ones. But thats all about that, dear diary, and here are those two photos from today:

Ive seen a few of your other posts and from what I've seen I like most of the hdr stuff your doing. Refreshing to see stuff that isn't over-processed, but I gotta ask, why bother hdr with that first one? Looks to me like that could have been captured with 1 exposure.

Yeah, I actually have 'non hdr' picture from that first one too, but with hdr I was able to get more details from those frozen glasses. And those frozen glasses did cut quite much light off, so that one square without glass did pop up too strongly comparing those frozen ones. Anyway that difference ain't big, but it is.

I don't know how that first one looks on your screen, but it should be total black, just two windows and nothing else. Original hdr did have much details from the walls too - there actually are wall between those two windows, and that smaller one is shown by the door 'hole' (I don't remember right word), but this simple thing is what I did search and what I (hopefully) did get by adjusting. As I did say, only reason for hdr in this photo was that with it I did get more details from the windows and I did get contrast between those 11 unbroken glasses nearer with that broken one.

Anyway, here is my last UE photo from 2008. Few weeks ago I did found nice book from library, it tells about old buildings of area. Only sad thing is that book is 20 years old... But it still did give me many 'have to check' kind of places. This was first to check, even it did have been categorized 'waiting for demolition' already 20 years ago. It was so close to death that I didn't go inside (there wouldn't be much to see anyway); there were big hole on the wall, and inner roof was collapsed from many places. It was builded in 1890.

Thank you very much. And I must say that it sure is quite cold here right now - -17C (1,3F) this morning (so everyone can imagine what it is drive with car without working heater) and it predicts even colder... Maybe that is one reason for all these this evenings beer pints and whiskey shots (after 7 hours I am quite drunk now)...

Very beautiful shot of your lady.

A mirage is not an optical illusion. It is a real phenomenon, and one can take photographs of it. The interpretation of the image, however, is up to the fantasy of the human mind.

Number 1 is crap. Sorry, but your work is good and you're being self indulgent by putting #1 out there as some kind of minimalist statement. It doesn't work and it's not even close to being in the same league with your other work. Everything else you've posted in this thread is awesome. Ditch it.

Thanks for comments. And thats sure alright for me, anyone doesn't have to like everything (and dislike for even one of my work shows sure good taste - they all ain't good (if even any of 'em is))!

Anyway I still underwrite even that first one, because in my view it is what I did search for; just two windows, eleven icy glass squares, shadow of tree or who knows what beast from nightmares waiting behind that other one, trying to get in, and then that one square showing bit of real world (world inside (or outside) of that nightmare).

This is how I see that photo. But as I did say, it ain't bad thing to dislike it.

The photos with your fiancée are way cooler though.

Literally.

But damned that I am happy that I did yesterday go to take few photos of that 'ancient Russian monster'; night did take frost away (and sunshine and coldness too), so now everything is just grey. I probably must go to take more photos of that beast as soon as (or if) we gonna get more snow. I did try to get something like 'that damned beast seems to be sleeping but it is just waiting for its prey in the middle of his web' mood to those photos, don't know if I did make it but there sure is something in old and big machines, even if they are from russia.

At last it did give bright sky with full moon and bit of snow, so yesterday it was time for bit of 'not so urban' exploration photographing. I did take my little sisters Canon EOS 400D, because it can use 30 second exposures comparing to my own Canon PowerShot S5 IS's 15 seconds. There were just one problem: focusing was pure pain, even it wasn't very dark. I did have to use flashlight to get it focused even anywhere. That was surprise because my digicompact did focus well even without using flashlight.

Anyway, that shall be enough about 'compacts are better than systems' speech...

I love your photos. I think I said it in a different thread but you're one of the only people who posts HDR that is actually pulled off correctly.

The cheaper DSLRs that I've played with have unimaginably crappy autofocus systems. Granted, Canon probably could use the autofocusing system from the 40D / 50D or 1d series in all of their cameras without spending much extra money, but then they wouldn't be able to set such ridiculous prices for their better cameras. My K10D has no problems focusing at night, in dark bars, etc... so try to borrow a better DSLR next time.
