| | Vol 3 - Rookie article - Caught in the act.. < on 10/1/2008 3:26 AM >
| | | Rookie Article Vol 3 September 30 2008 Well its bound to happen sometime, your going to get caught in the act by an authority figure and your going to have to give an explanation. Its happened to all of us, and those of us who are there to explorer and not cause trouble walk away from the situation. Your equipment is going to decide how much trouble you get yourself in, lock picks, crow bars, knives and other burglary tools are sure to give you a ride in a police car. So theirs usually three situations your going to face.. caught by the police, caught by security or caught by a passer-by. The police are going to want an explanation on the spot, so have your story ready. Don't lie tell them you were here for the photography and if you don't have any burglary equipment with you they'll let you continue taking pictures or tell you to get off the property. Security can go either way, they can be idiots or very understanding.. same as the the police explain why you were there and follow as they tell you to do. Passers-by usually wont care, but if they do.. tell them them your there for the photography and its not really any of there business anyways. But all of this is going to be useless if your caught exploring at night.. chances are there police will take you away. Like my past articles, I'm including some handy notes for you look over. Described below is various equipment and attire suggestions. ATTIRE - Casual cloths. Perhaps some under armor if you know you'll have to hop a few fences .. nothings more annoying then getting your shirt caught on the fence. Chances are if your exploring destination is secluded you wont have to worry about police and security. I don't suggest wearing all black clothing or any sort of camouflage. EQUIPMENT - Like I said, burglary equipment is unnecessary. This is exploring not a B&E and not matter what you tell the cop if your caught with a crow bar and lock picks hes going to think its a B&E ( Breaking and Entering ) However I do suggest cameras, backpack with a few snacks and perhaps a flashlight. Keep it simple you don't want to carry around a whole lot. Now I often here stories about people having run ins with crazy homeless folk.. so they say they always have to bring a knife. I can understand this but be prepared to ditch the knife if you get caught... or a simple replacement, bring a few friends along.. power comes in numbers. Alright so lets say you totally ignore everything I told you and you bring burglary equipment and your busted. What do you do? Well you could run, but unless your a 100m Track and Field Champion like myself I don't suggest this. But your already in trouble so go for it.. but this is a final resort. To sum everything up, police aren't going to spend the remainder of the night filling out paper work about a person taking photographs of an abandoned building unless they have reason to.

| | | While I'm thrilled with your enthusiasm for urban exploration, your spree of new threads seems to be getting a bit out of hand. Three new threads by the same author within 48 hours seems rather excessive, especially when almost all of the information contained therein is already posted in greater detail in other areas of the forum. Also, is it so hard to use spell-check and decent grammar? This may be the rookie forum, but we don't have to write like noobs. For all of our sakes, please take the time to edit your posts before we have to suffer through them.

| | | Okay, now I'm just getting suspicious. What's the deal with the godawful spelling? Without picking apart every single mistake you made, you managed to misspell "caught" the exact same way nine times. Nobody can be that stupid. If you want to write helpful, informative material, you're gonna have to pass grade 1 English first. I can recommend a handful of ESL websites.

| | | I mean, seriously if you mean well then great. But please, please, please before you post, use the "SpellCheck and preview button". You'll then see misspelled words highlighted in yellow. Click them for a suggestion to appear at the top of your post preview. Find the appropriate word and click it to fix! It might sound complicated but it really doesn't take that long. You'll be taken more seriously, and it will be much easier to read. I'm going to go ahead and fix all the spelling errors in your 3 recent posts, because I'm a generous guy like that, and to show you how quick and easy it is. But you're on your own after that, and I'm going to be very upset if I take the time to fix your mistakes and you proceed to ignore them in the future. Thanks!
*Just to be noted, I fixed the spelling, not the grammar. That's something I just don't have the time for. * [last edit 10/1/2008 2:23 PM by ActionSatisfaction Esq. - edited 1 times]

While I can see that YOU'RE trying to be helpful, I don't think that telling rookies to run from police is a very good idea. The reasoning that "I'm already in trouble, fuck it" is not the way to go here. You will find yourself in much stickier situation if caught running, rather than just talking to the police and claiming ignorance ("The door was wide open officer, I was just curious and didn't think it would be hurting anyone") or simply being honest ("I wanted to take some photographs").
oh, and can I have YOUR autograph? Track and FIELD champion?

Consider those the first and last warnings. Temp-bans will be issued IMMEDIATELY now that you're all aware. Give the guy a break. I didn't fix his posts for nothing. If he does it again... well.. he's been warned, but now enough is enough.

| | | Alright, well, I'm going to clear everything up here. My spelling is horrible! I'll type very fast and not correct my mistakes; chances are that I've already made a few of them in this post. I am pretty fast and I really shouldn't brag about it. I'll be sure to double-check my spelling next time. Thanks.
