Ahh, another RAT/ESEE fan..the 4 is a favorite of mine.

The upcoming HEST folder looks like it's going to be awesome.

Yeah I'd be all over the HEST (or Izula) folder if I hadn't grown tired of all the maintenance folders require. I might still buy them but I'll stick with the 4 as my EDC.

Ahhh knives.

Always have my Sog Flash II (it is an alright knife. I think I'm going to get a Aegis or Trident next), I'll have my fully ceramic & plastic knife when I can't carry a big metal knife on me, and hiking, camping, and exploring I'll have my tanto Ka-Bar. Full tang is definitely the way to go and the tanto shape is very strong.

I don't think you can pop a manhole with one of those, like I did with my Leatherman on the weekend...

Who needs to pop a manhole cover off when you can empty a clip into one and not have to do any heavy lifting?

If you kill a manhole, two others come to exact revenge. If you subdue those, then it's four, eight, sixteen...

You don't want to go there.

I'm going to make a shank out of a piece of steel that I found at a well known brewery. It's gonna be evil looking. But until then I'll stick with my leatherman.

*ANAL NERD ALERT ANAL NERD ALERT*
They're called MAGAZINES. Clips feed into an internal magazine, guns that use clips are really OLD. Guns like semi automatic pistols, SMGs, and assault rifles like the M4A1 use MAGAZINES.
GOSH.

I personally have a whole gambit of things that I carry. Unfortunately, I have never found anything that is the "best and only thing to carry". So I tend to keep em all with me in the truck and I grab what I need.

I've got my Leatherman, cuz who knows when you'll need pliers, wire cutters, and who knows what else. I've still got my "lucky" one that still has my blood all over it from getting shot. You can't buy a design like that. ;)

In addition, I always have my Springfield Armory 1911 Operator chambered in 45. Cal (hollow points I could eat soup out of, of course). In addition to being a great weapon which has been tested and proven for almost 100 years now, I purchased the Operator due to the rail system under the barrel. On that rail I have a Viridian Green Laser Sight/Flashlight. Not something terribly needed for exploring but it is a nice thing to have with me. The weapon itself for obvious reasons. But the light in that package is extremely bright and is nice to have if your main light fails.

Also, I have one of three knives that are my go to. I have a whole drawer of knives at home ranging from a little one blade knife to whittle with to a giant bowie knife for… well…. I don’t know what. Also there are a few swords in there. But let’s try and stay with what is practical. In my first deployment, I was lucky enough to get my hands on three Benchmade knives issued to us. And as far as the sheer quality of the knife, I haven’t found anything yet that can beat em. I have two different styles of switchblades made by Benchmade (not legal for civilians to carry) as well as a fixed blade knife from them that is roughly the size of a Ka-Bar.

The fixed blade is in a hard plastic case with a thumb switch used to lock the knife into the sheath. I’ve hung it upside down on my vest for the better part of about nine months and never once had a problem with it trying to slip or slide out. It has tie down points all over it should you decide to attach it to something other than your belt. Though if you do decide to just use the belt loop, it rides low enough that it doesn’t poke you in the side if you’re trying to move around a tight spot. The blade itself is all black to match the handle and provides no glare at all when it’s out. It is half serrated with a drop point tip. Now I used to think half serrated was a dumb idea but now that I’ve carried this for a good long time, it comes in handy if you need to saw through something such as rope. The blade holds a nice edge for a good long time and when you get it, it’s sharp enough to shave with if it came right down to it.
And that brings me to why I love Benchmade knives as much as I do. The lifetime guarantee. It the blade ever becomes dull, the black comes off the blade, you break the tip off prying something open with it, all you have to do is send it back to Benchmade and they will fix it or just send you a new knife. And let me tell you, the edge they put on it when they sharpen it will be just as good as when you first pulled it out of the box. I’ve done this numerous times and have never had a problem with this process. Now for the down side…

You actually break the warranty on it if you sharpen it yourself. So if this is something you prefer to do, that’s fine, but know that it does violate the warranty. And while the turn around is pretty fast, you still have to do without your knife for awhile while they fix it. But for me personally, you can’t get a better knife for the money. I’ve got three of em and love em all. Yes they are expensive at the start but most things are that you are buying for life. Plus they have sent me two brand new knives when I sent my old ones in to be fixed. So really, as soon as that goes down once, your knife has paid for itself and provided you with a brand new knife in the process. I don’t know of another company with that kind of customer service. The only other one that comes to mind is Cold Steel. And while their knives are cheaper, they will send you a new knife if you manage to break your old one. I don’t like theirs as much but it is out there as another option.

… And I think I’m done now. =)

Exploring. I just happen to really like my knives and felt the need to review them for other folks. =) Though I totally would hunt CHUDS. Know where I can find some?

I think there might be some here, but they live really deep underground. Except for one that escaped and now plays bass for a local rock band. J/K
