A conservative attempt at HDR

I generally don't fool around with HDR too much. When I do it's usually only for one shot in a series. I'm concerned with there being a little too much yellow in it, but let me know what you think.

The rest of the series is at http://www.flickr....72157605784673046/

I like it. Which is not the case for most HDR...

Nice, I like it. I'm in the if-you-can't-tell-it's-an-HDR-it's-a-good-HDR camp.

I'm not 100 percent in love with it. The pictures just seem a little too rehearsed, or flooded in a way but they would be nice shots.

Nice, I like the colors, they really fit the feel of the picture. HDR is definitely not over done.

Not a big HDR fan, but I'm really liking these shots...they really enhance the age, and mood of the place, if you will...

Very nice. The nice thing about hdr is that it brings out all the details in things.
The yellow adds a nice warming felling to it. Great work.

If you can't beat them, shoot them!

The detail is fucking amazing. This is how hdr is supposed to be done

Excellent HDR. I definitely don't agree that it's overdone on this shot.

Sorry it's taken me a while to reply-- I've been out of town this past week. Thanks everyone for the feedback, I really appreciate it.

Wish I had the time to come back that way I didnt shoot alot in here last time I was in town.

Ya better find time, or else we'll have to make Jason plan another convention.

I'm not 100 percent in love with it. The pictures just seem a little too rehearsed, or flooded in a way but they would be nice shots.

That bit of criticism was a little too vague for me to wrap my head around. Could you elaborate more?

BTW Only the picture posted on this thread was HDR. The rest of those on my flickr are sans-HDR.

The best HDR's are the ones that are subtle, and which show a nice balance of lights and darks, with detail in the shadows and when the highlights aren't blown out.

most people have thought this was a film shot. Its actually a 5 exposure HDR without tone mapping (which is what generally leads to that hideous, dusty, muted or totally unreal color in images.

Weird, I just spent the last couple of days processing my shots from last year's trip to KC, and I clicked on this and was like, hey, THAT looks familiar.

Does THIS look familiar?

overall it's a very well done hdr, true there is a little too much yellow, saturation could stand a little toning down, but extremely well done overall. unlike you, the majority of the photo's i take these days are ready for hdr (5-9 exposures. the main reason i do it though is to test how it looks as hdr, then compare it to the best of the series of exposures. sometimes i use the hdr, sometimes i use one of the series shot for the hdr. and sometimes i completely over process to bring out the detail in just the area i want, unfortunately that leads to the cartoonish shots or really flat shots. here's an example of one of my recent ones.

are you using photomatix or photoshop for the processing?

Hah! It sure does.

How about this? ;)

Thanks blackomegax and urban caver!

I used photoshop for that one, along with about 50 tweaks and edits and 3 hours.
