Av,

I can't figure out how to change the time. It says that it is 9:00 when it is really 4:00. I tried changing it in my profile but I'm not sure how.

What time? The server time? The server time you cannot change. If it is the other time, the time that says "Posted at xx:xx", go into your profile. It is somewhere in there that you can change the time.

[EDIT: in your profile, just play with it for a while. that's what i did.]

I am in Connecticut, and (for me) the value of "Time offset from MST" is -5. I am guessing that the value for you would be -3 or -2. I am pretty sure that you will have a negative value (i.e. -1).

EDIT:
If you live near Av (which i assume you do, you're both in toronto) just PM him and ask for his value for that box.

For Toronto, it's 5 hours behind GMT, so it's -5 for Whore, too...

That just sounds wrong.

Anyways, we should a little page/map that divides the regions up, so it'll be easier for newbies to set their time. I wouldn't mind doing such a thing.

Newbies? You mean people who don't know how time zones work? Or who can't see that it says 9pm, and their time is 4pm, so the value is clearly -5?

Math class! Pay attention in math class!

I don't need no math class, I got a calculator! Besides, I couldn't care less about time zones: therefore that's why I didn't (and still don't) know how to set the time. Remember Av, not everyone is as smart as you are.

True, however it takes the knowledge of what the hell GMT means in the first place. Moreover, how do I know that I subtract four from nine? For all I know, I might have to add four to nine. My forte is not math, my fortes are Social Studies, English, and Spanish.

Basics of time zones for the n00bz:

The server runs it's clock on GMT, which stands for Greenwich Mean Time. GMT is the time in Greenwich, England (time zone 0, if you will). All of the other 23 time zones are based off of GMT and referenced by the number of hours different they are. A lot of people in North America deal in the time zones GMT-6 and GMT-5. These notations simply mean that the time in the specified time zone is x many hours (6 or 5 in this case) slower than GMT. I hope this makes sense.
[edit: I knew that looked wrong]

It's generally spelled "Greenwich".

More simply, FireStorm, math not being your forte is no excuse. A second grader could tell you that if a clock says nine o'clock, and it's actually four, you would want to subtract five hours to make it correct.

Wasn't Greenwich Mean Time actually officially fazed out in 1986 for Universal Time Coordinated (UTC)? I don't know what the difference is besides the name or why GMT is still used, but it's always confused me.
