| | | | Beer, Paperwork, and the Hole < on 5/31/2008 9:09 PM >
| | | These are a few of the shots I've been taking over the past couple months, I've just been too busy with work and school to share up until now. Be harsh if necessary, I'm used to harsh critiques (I'm majoring in architecture). The locations are a few various places around town, the "Hole" is my personal favorite location and made up of nearly 300 residential units in row house form, cascading a secluded hillside. The other interior shots come from an abandoned mansion in the ghetto, and the offices of an abandoned brewery. I attempted my first HDR ever, I wish I could have gotten better results with it. It seemed like the shot was begging for it - such a huge contrast between the shaded area and directly sunlit area.
1. The HDR, looking up the hillside of the commons area between two sets of row houses:
2. Looking down the hill at the front side of one of the rows seen above, and another row on the opposite side of the street:
3. Springtime in the Hole:
4. A view out the window of an abandoned mansion:
5. The view from the roof of the mansion, a far too common scene in this neighborhood:
6. One of my first ever peeling paint shots, of a main hallway in an old, old office building:
7. A window frame, and more peeling paint:
8. Beautiful woodwork on this baluster:

| | | is this my favorite ohio location, glenco?
I was recently trying to find some locations from "the wire" and found an area like this in W b -more. sorta got chased out by the friendly locals.

| | | Wow, very cool location! I can't really critique the photos beyond indicating "They look great to me" because I'm not photobug, and I'm more interested in the location.
I really like #2, because while you indicate that the place is abandoned, it looks so clean & uniform. WHERE are the burned out stolen car hulks, the hookers & drug dealers, and why is there no graffiti on the homes?

| | | 1 and 2 looks washed out, you might want to boost saturation/tweak the colors a bit

| | | All good, 2 and 4 really standout, that bent wall and porthole window, rare, church in the big window is a fine bonus. 2 is surreal, so good to see no graf. For the record, I like some graffiti in some urban locations. Good graf is art, but an unmolested location of this quality is a treat. It looks so solid in 2, if only they could get some urban renewal happening. Inexpensive homes, people off the street, a dream ya.

| | | u25680, this is both your and my favorite location in Ohio, at least the first 3 shots. The rest of the shots are a couple of new locations scattered around town. It's definitely a great place, I'm not sure how it stays so clean. I know it was a scene for a big urban renewal project in the 70's, I actually have a copy of the renewal plans from then. It went fell back into poverty since and was closed by the city in the late 90's. A developer bought it and proposed middle to upper class condos, but the deal fell through because of financing problems. Anyways, I tweaked the first two photos a bit to try and bring out some color, how do they look? 1.
2.
By the way, A. Lien, that window is really an awesome feature. It's located on the top floor of a narrow house, between two dormers in a mansard roof.
