| | | Mare Island warehouse < on 5/7/2008 12:14 AM >
| | | I took a trip to Mare Island over the weekend. I found my way into what I think was a warehouse. It's a positively gigantic place, and based on my limited knowledge of construction techniques, I'd guess it's kind of old too. The way the main supports are reinforced with cross-crossing beams seems like a technique that predates steel supports...but that's just my uninformed guess. Anyway, it's not the most interesting structure at M.I., but the sheer size made it great fun to check out. One thing I missed doing was getting the building's number, which hinders any kind of searching about it's former role on the base. The bathroom shot is from a building not far from the warehouse, a much smaller one. If it wasn't for the bathroom, it would be a pretty uninteresting place. Here are some shots:

| | | #2 and #3 are my favorite. Great shots. Do you mind sharing photo techniques? I'm relatively new to photography and just trying to take awesome shots. If you don't want to share everything, maybe just tell me if number 3 was a long exposure or something else? Thanks. Johnny.

| | | Wicked style, rustyjaw. I'm assuming those are HDR? You are simply killin' it with the awesome shafts of light. I've been looking for a warehouse just like this to shoot during the day at Mare. I recently took a day trip to Mare with a model and made it into 7 or 8 different buildings with no hassles whatsoever. My first day trip to Mare and it was way less stressful since you don't stick out as much as you do late at night. Here's a draft of one of my shots. It was the first time I've shot a model in an abandonment and the first time she's posed for pictures like this.

| | | Really great stuff... I love how rustyjaw's photos make the place look so huge. I still have never been, not even once! I really need to plan a trip out there sometime in the near future.

| | | Thanks everyone! I feel kind of dumb suggesting that the lack of steel supports suggests that this place is old. All those yellow supports are steel! But it does almost look as if they were added at some point, like they don't fit in somehow. SirJinx, as far as technique, I'm not sure what you are asking about, is it composition or processing or something else? Im happy to share what I can. EDIT: I see you asked about the exposure on the 3rd shot. It's a 3-shot HDR. The exposure times were 8, 2, 30 seconds at f/8.0. Merged and tonemapped in Photomatix. Thanks freeside, yeah they are all HDRs. That's a great shot you posted, love the repetition and composition. You are really branching out shooting people, nice. | | | Which warehouse is that in the first post? @Seany: Yeah, random drunk friends decided to smash crap. I told them to read the rules of UE, and they stopped. lol. I never smash stuff, honestly. Or tag, for that matter. [last edit 6/4/2008 5:54 AM by xxsonicblue - edited 1 times]

| | | Hello I am new here and was browsing around. I wanted to share some Mare Island pictures I have. They are unsorted and even my bad photos are in there. I do have a lot more but was too impatient to upload them. I hope you find 1 or 2 you like http://www.tyadownloads.com/myphotos/
