Hey, just for the record, it sounds like the D40 had long exposure noise reduction switched on, and the rebel had it switched off. It's a standard feature on most DSLRs, and it always takes the same time as the actual exposure.


I've shot long exposures with and without the noise reduction on the d40 and it still took quite a long time to process in both cases. My rebel takes no more than a second or two regardless of how long the exposure was. Heard the same problem with some of the other lower end nikon bodies, but I've been playing with a new d90 and it takes no time.

Are you sure we're talking about the same thing? Long exposure NR, not one of the other noise reduction features. It's switched off by default on the D90.
