There was this one time when I scared Ophie so bad she almost hit me.
There were a bunch of goth kids in the building with us and she thought I was one of them.

Was funny.

I crawled in through the smashed lower half of an abandoned Youth Hostel's door once, about the size of a doggie door. This was after the sun had gone down, so I didn't get any natural light inside. Not that I would have gotten much anyway, since the first floor's windows were all boarded. So, I walk my way up the stairs to the second floor where the windows aren't boarded to check things out, make a left off the staircase to go down the hallway, and then... boom! Flashlight goes out! A few seconds later, I hear this -LOUD- metallic banging noise coming from the other end of the hallway. Naturally, I ran as fast as I could manage through a place I'd never been before, in the dark, and sailed out of the broken door. Coulda SWORN I heard someone laughing his ass off up there after I left... I imagine some hobo, whom I call Johnny McBangpipes, had a good laugh over THAT one.

Oh, I'm sick of doing Japanese things. In jail they made us be in this dumb Kabuki play about the Forty Seven Ronin, and I wanted to be Oshi, but they made me Ori!

We tried to do a site a few nights ago, and got the cops called on us... Twice... The second time we were standing on the street talking.... Apparently we looked like criminals...

I ran into some teens in a house once and they thought I was the property owner and got freaked out. I stopped at this place after work, so I was decently dressed and didn't have the typical explorer clothing on.

I kinda like the idea of avoiding all contact with anyone I encounter while exploring until I can determine his or her objectives. If they’re fellow explores –great. Stop and chat, compare notes and that's that. If they are up to no good, then perhaps from a distance, I’ll mess up their game plan (calling cops on copper thieves). If I come across drug addicts or homeless people, I prefer to move right past them like a ninja in the shadows. -Unless they’re fucking with me.

Even though I am the farthest thing from it, I can go from 0 to Undercover Narcotics Officer in sixty seconds. I’ve pulled it off before, I’m sure I can do it again. I know that impersonating a police officer is bad, bad news. It’s kind of a last resort type of thing. Then it turns into “If I catch you here again, trespassing, I’m going to bust you for getting high. Take your sh*t and move along.” It’s all about what they refer to as “command presence” or what I like to call “being a dickhead”.

But I’m not into frightening people for the sake of mischief making.

I was in a radar building wearing a hooded army coat with goggles and a respirator, I had on dark pants and combat boots, a belt with pouches and a folding knife.

As I stepped out of the building and walked around the front of it I came across this guy feeling up his girlfriend (she had her back to me and the guy was facing me). He saw me come around the corner and his eyes when really wide before he tried to turn and run. He forgot he still had his hands up his girlfriend's shirt so he pulled her over on top of him as he fell backwards.

They were both screaming at and staring at me wide eyed (I looked like one of the soldiers from Outbreak) and screamed even harder as I tried to calm them down. They finally did stop and ended up walking away a little bit embarrased and angry.

Messing with kids at Weird NJ sites is fun. Other than that I usually keep my distance from people altogether. Haven't encountered many other explorers yet. Probably because I tend to explore while many people work.

The only time I ever got really freaked out was back when a friend and I were hiding from security on the roof of one of those corridors that connect too buildings. I still don't know how the hell we got outta there unnoticed. Almost shit my pants, but the adrenaline felt amazing.

Yeah, I've scared people while exploring. But usually the people I'm exploring with. I like to explore abandoned farms, and it's not uncommon to run across racoons and such living in old farm houses.

Since I've spent lots of time in the darkroom developing photos, I'm quite comfortable in the dark. My favorite thing to do after we split up in the house to take photos is to head to the basement and wait under the stairs.

Then when someone gets about halfway down snarl or growl like a wild animal, just for shits and giggles,(I've been told told I sound quite authentic).

Unfortunately I'm usually the only one who thinks it's funny. Plus it's getting old, I've either come up with a new repertoire, or just stop being an ass.

Alerting police officers to the fact that people are breaking in to a buildings is a really good idea. Its so awesome when they get pissed off and start watching it harder and boarding things up! GOOD JOB!

At Prince edward Heights, these kids were smashing windows, and florescent tubes, I heard them coming down the stairs by the mold room/infirmary, and as the came down the stairs, I opened the door. They freaked out ran like hell up the stairs and out the front entrance.

I'm sure they thought I was a guard or cop.

You can go without exploring a place for a few months if it means saving a part of it from copper thieves, vandals and arsonists.
After all, a sealed building is better than no building.

So stop being an asshat.
