And who said I have not been the captain of an oil tanker? I've driven one, that's close enough for me.

Listen man, unless I can google up some news articles about how you grounded your tanker on an ecologically sensitive beach while drunk...

This thread has been a very interesting mix of honesty, humour, attacks, ignorance, and revelations. If the rhetoric had more to do with exploration, I think it would have come close to perfection. Lasting only two days right now, the drive and pace has been remarkable given this mix.

With that little aside, I think that UER isn't really that bad, despite what some perceive as a lack of intellectually stimulating material. There are plenty of outlets for that on other sites. Most of the time a thread about something greater than ordinary exploration seems to not go anywhere and sink into the archives before accumulating too many responses.

Artificially limiting any negative sentiment from appearing in threads doesn't make the forum better. Why should we send the message that it's not alright to get frustrated or to criticize? Those who are consistently abusive get banned. I don't even see this as a good site to study bullying.

the way i see it people are assholes IRL and on "teh internets" deal with it as best you can. yes i think we have a problem here, i don't think it's going away anytime soon. we should however get this blocked from Google like kowalski said.

yeah I'll get on peoples cases when they ask questions that should be looked up elsewhere or searched for in the forums, because the should do just that.

a lot of new people ask questions that are a matter of opinion and don't need to be asked in the first place. solution write a beginners guide to UE. not talking about Access all areas. i mean a really plain and simple book.

book will tell you:
what flashlight, bag & camera to buy.
how to become teh leet explorer
how to deal with the homeless
ect.

it's like people don't know how to do anything for themselves, yes once and a while you come up with honest to goodness questions but so often they ask for advice that really should not be given out online because it's situationally specific.and the people asking don't give enough background to the situation anyway.

i'm just tired of seeing the same question asked every 2 weeks by someone new.

SD

F this I"m going exploring!

Every place you go will have these people, just ignore them or find a way to get back without making a bigger problem (talk to a good Mod). I shall not point out any names, but some Mods can be nasty.

Oh noes!! Tell me which mod it was and I'll call their Mom and tell on them!

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.

Wow. This is one of the more pathetic threads yet.

Tattling on / whining about those you dont agree with or feel intimidated by?

Banning those that post a viewpoint counter to your own?

Hows that conducive to a free exchange of information and ideas?

I suppose just ignoring the ones you think are bullies is too difficult for some. Post something useful or at least interesting if you actually have something useful or interesting to post that is*.

*assumes you actually explore something...

Everybody, stop taking the internet so seriously.

Hopefully most of us have learned from this thread, and can now progress to the next level of teh internets.
