Someone must be affiliated with the house, because obviously the electric bill is being paid.

Thanks for the great tips. I'll be trying the bubblegum trick after I try knocking on the door. I'm kind of nervous actually because I secretly fear that there's a corpse inside and the killer didn't turn off the porch light. Well, this is a sign for me to stop watching (as much) CSI.

If there was a corpse laying in there in the open, you would know before you even enter the house. Please don't ask how I know this.

even if it's not lived in, it looks locked down. Means b+e. I'd say bad mojo, that and the ADT sign and all. Maybe I'm just being too cautious, though?

I didn't catch that sign, now I see it.

Can you peek through any windows to see if any furniture is there and in order? If it was me, I think I would pass on this place. It just looks like someone went on a winter vacation.

Yeah, the winter vacation story seems likely but it would seem wierd how they would have enough money for a vacation and not enough money to repaint the exterior

i know plenty of people who really don't care what their house looks like, inside or out. I've seen people living in spots much nastier than this. there are lots of things in life worth more than spending money on maintaining your home's exterior.

No, your not!
If you want to splore an empty building try picking on something bigger,
that's owned by someone other than the guy next door...
it's more interesting.

Here's a pleasant anecdote: A few years back my friend lived in a two level duplex in the mountains. Her neighbor (above her) was an elderly man with a dog. The man was known to let his dog out to play every day, until one winter when he stopped. My friend thought nothing of this considering the bitter conditions that winter, she too was keeping her dogs inside. Well, next spring something began leaking from the part of the house above, ruining her walls and generally stinking up the place. She complained to her landlord who went upstairs to check on things. When they got the door open they knew immediately. The guy was dead, on his couch. Actually he was more or less part of the couch, which was more or less part of the floor. It was obvious what the leaking on the walls was, and needless to say my friend found a new place to live.

Apart from that, houses are moderately interesting at best, go for a building or a drain.

I did NOT know dead people melted. Now I know.

Didn't that guy have to pay his rent every month?

They will "melt" and bloat in the hot summer months. Some people are on automatic bank withdrawl for rent, utilities, etc, so when the account dries up, the landlord will come knocking. If you are receiving a pension automatically, that could be a very long time.

The house is inhabited (or a crack house). Strange thing though, the driveway was shoveled but looking at the footprints they do not go in via the front door, they go through the back. Strange. Ah well

Not unusual. I never enter my house through the front door either, always through the side entrance.

Glad you aborted that mission. You would be B&E at a minimum and the worst that would happen is you could get shot.

Sometimes their chest will explode due to gas buildup. Death isn't a pretty process.
