No-one is perfect; but most of the time if your cool about things and are not posting pictures of yourself burning down a police station on the open net, people wont rally care. I saw on the news this past summer, that the state police were tipped off by an unknown passerby who saw a man with a crowbar stealing copper from a cemetery crypt "identity remains a mystery" First thing I yelled was "HA Must have been an Urban Explorer!!! ... that or some creepy goth kid" lol
If anyone of us found a little kid down a well, and had some climbing rope we'd climb down and get them right? [maybe a few would make him "puts the lotion on his skin or else it gets the hos..." nah im just kidding"]
And I think pretty much every myspace with pitures of drunk/stoned kids on it is up for grabs then...
By all means be careful ... but paranoia is only the first sign ... of stupidity.

It's a matter of were and most importantly the degree of the crime. Municipal trespass is a ticket, but B&E in a serious felony. Most leos will not ignore felony crimes, and this isn't considered normal behavior as reflected by the stiff fines and jail sentences which can be imposed.
Trespassing anywhere that houses people can result in felony charges.
Trespass on an active DOD site is a very costly mistake if caught.
You can rationalism all you want, but that won't hold up in court; all crimes are not equal.

I think what they are talking about here is the fairly recent US Presidential sign off order. Herr Bush can now designate ANYONE as an "enemy combatant", and ship you off to Guantanamo Bay forever.
However, I really don't think thats going to happen for trespassing.
I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

People are so naive, aren't they?
They obviously don't understand how broad sweeping a US declaration of war is, and how much power the new 911 laws give US agents and operatives.
They can grab you with no written warrant, seize all you own, freeze all your assets,and incarcerate you indefinitely with no public hearing in a non territorial prison. I think I got that all right.
A heads up for those not living in US, they operate under the net and international law as well.
Why do you think they call them Spooks?!!
They are also well connected and can bring more subtle forms of pressure to bear on those that are causing trouble. If your bank account was frozen for say 6 months, how would you stay in business? That's how they shut down web sites! They freeze the bank account(s) of the owner(s). That happened to Al (Munster) Lewis a couple years ago.

The police won't bother googling anything unless they have a lead. If they get a call from someone saying that they have reason to believe that illegal activity is going on at a site, thats when they would look it up and find this place.

exactly, getting caught on-site is a very very bad idea, sometimes you can talk your way out of it, sometimes you can't. your exactly right as far as the B&E and "suburban exploring" goes; but if in relevance to this thread, that people for the most part don't care about the picture's posted online, of an abandoned building for example, shouldn't land you in too much hot water... The only time that there might be a problem is if there was a fire or murder at a site very near to the time you had been there and someone saw your picture online, you should expect to be asked some questions...
I think everyone has boundaries... or should. I wont go into Someplace i have to pick a lock or bust down a door... if i can't just walk right in [maybe an occasional window ;) ] it's not worth it.
But the US Gov will do whatever the f*ck the US Gov wants to do, thats how it's always gonna be.
My point was that you should use your head, and if you get caught than, well you'll have to deal with the consequences...
