Been working on a few things some of you mentioned the last time I posted. Even harsh criticism is appreciated, as I am actually trying to get better.

I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

To be perfectly honest... I do not like either one.

In the first one there isn't really anything to draw the eye to, theres nothing for one to "discover". There is no real detail within the wood. I kinda think I would have liked it better without the building as a pure landscape. The colors are also a little too pastel and soft for my liking. But thats just me...

The second one is a little too blown out. I must say it is a much more interesting structure than the first, and my eye searches for something cool to see but I am left with a feeling of indifference.

These are just my feelings.

I must say that I have a thousand pictures like this myself... and I use them as an overview for trip writeups. I feel the real photography for mines is in the detail of the wood, rusted nails, and random nicknack's left around the site.

Once again, just my views ::shrugs::

You're off to a good start though.

I like the colours in the first one too. The clouds are an interesting shade of purple.

I like both of them. mainly the background because I think that part of the country is really pretty.

Can one actually get inside some of those old mines that cover the southwest?

Alright, thanks folks. Always looking for tips! I read a book suggested in my last post here, and tried to apply at least a little of it. Still not comfortable with the rule of thirds.

u25680, you can indeed get into these mines. Literally tens of thousands of them. Come on out!

One thing you may want to keep in mind is the horizon. Try moving it to the upper or lower third sometimes. The first picture is what made me bring this up even though I like it. Also, something to keep in mind is trying to keep the subject from being in the center like the second picture has.

Do you have any pictures from inside?

I changed my mind so much I can't even trust it. My mind changed me so much I can't even trust myself.

The more I see, the more I want to. I might just have to take a drive out this spring.

Edit- Google answered my question.

Your photography is great, just in my opinion a little 'bland'(?) I guess would be the word.

I like the 1st one better, but if you took #2 at a different time of day when the shadow is not so deep, it would be better. IMO.

1.) I think you should get closer, it feels unbalanced to me. I'm also suprised this thing is standing.

2.) It seems more like a snapshot. Get closer as well. It looks like an interesting place, but almost looks as if you drove by it and just snapped one off. Walk around a building when you shoot it and try to picture what would be the best angle to take a shot from. With tha harsh light a polarizer would really enhance your shots.

First one is kind of boring. Technical aspects are not bad, but there's no real "wow" factor, or anything to make it really interesting.

Second one seems really blue. Work on your white balance.
