| | | HPD: 'Shadow' Seen In Hotel Before Implosion UPDATE 2 Click2Houston, November 15, 2007 HOUSTON -- Police searched the site of a hotel implosion after home video indicated someone may have been inside when it went down, KPRC Local 2 reports. Houston police investigators began searching the site of the former Crowne Plaza Hotel on Main Street near Holcombe Boulevard in the Texas Medical Center on Wednesday. Investigators said a police dog made a hit on something in the rubble. The home video showed a shadow inside the building moments before it was destroyed on Sunday. Detectives said they have narrowed down their search to an area about the size of two cars, but it is about three stories deep. Seven forensics dogs sniffed through the area in 15-minute increments. "They'll tell you right away," said Jana Bickel, who works with the dogs. "Their alerts are very obvious." Bickel said if the dogs find something, it does not mean that someone was definitely inside. It may be blood that could have come from anywhere, Bickel said. Cherry Demolition completed the implosion of the 14-story building and is cooperating fully with the police investigation. "We are working diligently with the officers of the Police Department," owner Leonard Cherry said. "We certainly hope that this is not true, but are cooperating any way we can." It took about 1,200 pounds of explosives to take the building down, Cherry said. Demolition officials said there were several security guards at the site to keep people out before the building was imploded. Texas Children's Hospital plans to build an expanded maternity ward on the site.

these dogs will hit on very small amounts of blood and fairly old blood, someone could have cut themselves during construction, or setting up de-construction I guess you'd say. Also I have to say I have worked with Cherry and they are very good and very professional, if someone was in there they snuck in after everything was in place. I can bet a full head count was done of all people that was supposed to be there before the button got pushed.

| | | Well if someone was in there when it imploded, chances are, they will still be in there after it ws imploded (unless they are very very fast) In the video which is pretty craptacular, you can see a door open and close at least thats what it looked like [last edit 11/15/2007 11:18 PM by Explorer Zero - edited 1 times]

| | | We need some Houston folks in here. Did anyone even know this building was coming down? I didn't know that. NV and I had looked at the building once but hadn't found a way in at the time. Couple years ago. If this is the same one I'm thinking it is. PS> Hope that wasn't any of our Houston folks. [last edit 11/15/2007 8:38 PM by Raticus - edited 1 times]

| | | I can't imagine anyone would be UE'ing a building full of wire and explosives. My guess is that the Houston homeless population just decreased by one. The sad part is that, given the mental state of many of the hardcore homeless, the victim may have thought that they were "out to get him", and perhaps purposely ignored calls to clear the building.

| | | Thats really weird. It almost doesn't look like a person, but a shadow. I definitely could see the door though... at least I think.

Probably, but that doesn't explain the figure walking past the door.

| | | Well I really hope it wasn't a person in the building, but after watching the video twice, I don't think it was. There is a door or something swinging shut, but if you look at the timing, it moves after the initial explosive blast. Could it be that the shock wave from the explosives caused an unsecured door to swing open or shut? The video is pretty shitty, but I just don't see a human shape in the area in question. The other possibility is that a ghost of the hotel made one last appearance before the building was gone forever. I know that some people will scoff at this, but there are those of us who accept it as a possibility.

| | | ok, never mind, I see what they're talking about now. I was distracted by the door moving, and missed the "figure" that pops up in the area next to the door on the right. hrmmm... I'm going to go with my second theory now i think...

I was thinking it as well... it looks like a person, but doesn't at the same time.

| | | The other thing that got me was the part where they were talking about how you can see the shape in the video, but not in still shots taken at the same time. weird to say the least.

Yeah, but how do you explain the figure walking to the left of the door right before the door closed or fell or whatever?

| | | I'm still looking at it, not certain what to make of it yet. I'm skeptical right now, but I'm having trouble getting it to play. Every time I try to start it up it hangs up. I've only actually seen it run about 3 times.

| | | I'll try it again tonight at home. I can't get either one of them to play. I have high speed at home, and we are supposed to have a T1 or whatever that lightning fast super connection is here at work and I can't get it to play on either one now.
