If you're not sober enough to drive, you're not sober enough to explore even though it's not quite as bad since driving drunk is dangerous to other people while drunken exploration is just to yourself.

exploration isn't exploration without alcohol in Europe. In fact the Paris Catacombs are just filled with rooms of explorers drinking by candle light

I dont drink at all. but exploring is a hobbie and all about having fun, its not professional by any means (do not confuse professionalism with a good ol sophisticated hobbie). I say do what you want.

I dont drink when exploring. If I did it would make my photos look even they worse than they usually are.

Wow, what sort of location would have that kind of architecture in it?

It's already been mostly said, but I would not explore while drinking. You're already at the mercy of enough variables that affect your safety. They're just two separate pastimes.

It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom.

I don't know about the drunk rappeling part. It happens and nobody has died to date. It's been a few years. And rigging a rope is not exactly rocket science, drunk or otherwise. In fact after a case of beer I know a guy who was still the fastest one up a 60 ft elevator shaft. So that disproves that theory too. But yes you still have to be careful and check your equipment. So you better know what you're doing and your limits with the booze. And above all be prepared to face the consequences.

I drink gasoline for breakfeast and beer for dinner!
Any problem can be licked with a case of beer and a few sticks of dynamite.

I love how it went from "and you can touch it if you want" to "NO YOU CAN'T TOUCH IT."

A few years ago the NYCTA had this annoying fear mongering propaganda campaign with posters saying if you saw something (that looked out of place, usually with a photo on the poster of a suitcase left under a subway seat or something) that you should 'say something' - point it out to a cop or the train crew...

We had to poke some fun at this...

Booze = liquid courage

Great for those hard to get in places.

That sounds like it should be a damn commercial!

I think I remember a certain location that we camped in the pool in below 10 degree weather...in the morning the first thing out of wenn's mouth...

I need a fucking beer!

Followed by me serving Mimosa to everyone because the orange juice was almost frozen!

Awwww... Memories!

There must be quite a few things a hot bath won't cure, but I don't know any of them.
