Whitby Mental Hospitals

I took a trip down to the abandoned whitby mental hospitals.. Well the only two remaining. Me and my sister and cousin broke into them at around 2 in the morning. It's highly surveilanced so if you plan on going it would be best at night. We had to cut through the fence but it is definitely two buildings you want to go see. It was very creepy inside, and you get the weirdest feeling passing through the halls with every room looking alike; small isolate whit rooms.

i havent loaded all my pictures yet but theres a couple ive posted up on my deviant art if you are interested in checking them out. ill put some more once i get around to it.

Wow BRILLIANT! New member, first post and you come on here bragging that you cut through a fucking fence and BROKE into these buildings.
You are a fucking moron! That isn't UE, and with that admission you just made I am sure you have just black balled yourself to the fullest extent to many of the members if not ALL of them that respect property and don't go breaking into buildings, they find POE ( Point Of Entry ). There is a BIG different between "Breaking and Entering" and "Trespassing" and from what you have said you went WAY over that line shit head.
You are NOT an Urban Explorer, you are a criminal.

FYI - Many may not follow this, but MANY do...A partial paragraph from the definition of Ethics regarding Urban Exploration:

"To some, the idea behind these "ethical practices" is to leave buildings in the same state that they were in before they were visited. The common, but not always entirely accurate catchphrase for this ethical standpoint is the Sierra Club's motto: "take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints." Some try and adhere to this motto which frowns heavily upon theft, vandalism, tagging, graffiti, and any other crime except for trespassing."

Do yourself a favor and just delete your account now and start over. I can't speak for everyone here on UER, but personally I feel breaking and entering is nothing less than vandalizing an abandonment or tagging it.

I understand this abandonment is a really cool place that you wanted to see, but if there wasn't already a way in, causing damage and being destructive is probably not the best way to do it. It doesn't sound like you're into urban exploring at all, it sounds like you're into going inside 'creepy' places JUST so you can say you did. From your post, I don't think that you appreciate the history and beauty of this abandonment, as most urban explorers do when they explore, but simply broke in and looked at this abandonment for the thrill factor and to feel creepy or spot some ghosts or better yet, catch some orbs in a picture.

We're not a bunch of punk kids who want to see who's cool enough to take a dare from our friends to go into that scary house or building, but a group of adults (Most of us, anyway) who explore abandonments and can appreciate the beauty and the history of these places and respect them for what they once were or what they once stood for.

Personally, I think it is people like YOU that give UE a bad name and who make it harder for legit explorers to practice our hobby without being looked down upon.

Your post was immature and pathetic. Why don't you save your story for school on Monday and brag to your friends at lunch and on the bus about what you did. Maybe THEY will think you're cool and give you the attention you so desperately desire.

kid is just 17 and it is his first post here (and more than like probably his first time exploring) and already the ethics nazis are down his throat, not everyone adheres to the same guidelines so chill.

if it wasn't for some punk kids breaking into these places, probably 95% of em wouldn't even be open in the first place. he just happened to admit it. what the heck is the big deal with cutting a chain link fence at an abandoned mental hospital anyway?

If more people followed these ethics, it would be easier on everyone else.

Thank you for posting This.

Well first of all, your first problem is defending the fact he is 17, that is the PROBLEM if you ask me.

Secondly, the big deal is if 95% of people DID NOT do what he did, there woudln't be more security at buildings that have had this done to them, there would be less arson, less copper theives, less tagging, and the list goes on.
Personally when I do a UE I want to see the building in the closest possible state that it was left in when it closed or was abandoned. I think part of the challenge is finding a way in without BREAKING the door down, or cutting the fence, one reason people SCOUT a location. There are plenty of places I could have just kicked a door in at, and gone in.
I think it by refraining from kicking a door in and finding tha possible difficult POE it prevents the latter from having eaiser access.
Have your opinion, that's fine.

for the record, i've never "broken" my way into a building, but if it weren't for other people doing so, there would be PLENTY of places i would have never gotten into (and would be impossible to "scout" my way into without that opening)

shit happens.

While I do think that cutting a fence and breaking into a place is over the top, I do think we should give the guy a chance to learn something here. I don't think you need to close your account, I think you need to hook up with some experienced explorers and learn the ropes. You'll do fine. Just be willing to learn as you go.

I completely agree with "take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints", just not how it is presented. I think members of UER have become way too excited about wanting to jump someone's ass at the first chance. The photography section seems to be a hot spot for that.

If the guy had been here for a while, it would be a different story. But since the guy is new, I don't see any reason to black ball him.

Forget the drama bullshit from the ethics people.

Welcome to UER.

Suggestion #1. DO NOT tell anyone how you got in the place. Never ever never. Just don't do it. Ever.

Suggestion #2, which should really be suggestion #1, but anyhoo...

DO NOT EVER break/smash/bend/cut/burn/punch/kick/etc. your way into a site. Why? Cuz then security will spot your handiwork and will bring in reinforcements. Seen it happen with my own two eyes.

Stealth is your friend, but that stealth doesn't include dressing like a combat soldier and/or ninja. Leave the weapons at home. A flashlight and inexpensive camera are your only necessary tools. One piece of ID. A cool and calm and polite attitude will get your out of whatever trouble you may find yourself in. Tood and balls-out bravado will get you arrested.

Seen it happen with my own two eyes.

Trust me on this.

I do a fair bit of exploring, and most all of it involves photography. What KK is saying here makes good sence, and i would heed his advice. I would also like to add, that booze is a must, as it enhances your stealth. It is essential to any exploration. Trust me.....all the good explorers do it!!

Why dont you make a contribution to the community? Your always a critic. You always have something to say. Why dont you shut us up with your amazing photography skills.

If that was your goal you achieved it when you told misery to get a new hobby.

Agreed...BUT being a new member there is still plenty of info regarding UE out there, and if ANY research what so ever would have been done before posting that piece of SCAT, this girl might have got a lot better welcoming to the forums. All it took was 5 minutes to read some noob forums.
