| | | Alright, I finally got around to organizing some UE-related photos I have to share. Photography is a totally new thing for me, so detailed constructive criticism would be appreciated. Anyways, the first six photos were shot with a Panasonic "Lumix" LS70 and the rest were done with a Canon Digital Rebel 300D.

| | | It's hard to look at several at the same time, so next time only post two or three per new thread (or your best of the collection). Also, the numbering is off, so I assume the #1 is the top pic... I'll try to cover what I see fit. Others can jump in... 1) Because the bottom right half of the frame is so dark, I would focus on that to make it lighter. And when you edit these in post you can change the contrast and composition of the light so that the sky won't be so harsh due to it compensating with the darkness in the foreground. Make sense? Experiement with this and take several shots of the same frame using different focus points and techniques to master your photography. 2) Too distorted or over-sharpened? Light is washing out the toilet tank. Again it's all about focusing points and what to/not to touch in the editing. 3) Stuarts Cabin. Not sure... Is this the original? If so, darken the contrast and add some color to it. Maybe crop the pic so that washed-out window isn't there. 4) Very good! One or two more points of color, but it's good. Maybe I see a B&W shot here? Maybe not... Excellent. 5) Ah, College Park Yard. It may be the settings on your camera. Less light and more color. Enhance the darkness in the shadows to bring out the texture. Don't be afraid to crop the picture. 6) I can't comment on this. I'll need help with this one. 7) Excellent. 8) Again good. Maybe a slight darker... Very slight. Very... 9) Good. Adjust the sharpness and color, but it's good. 10) Good. Sharpen the pic a little to bring out the grass.
Overall, I think you need to work on your focus points and how you edit your pics in post. I recommend a program called PictureProject (by Nikon) which does basic editing and organizing for your pictures, but also gets the job done. It's very easy to use and there's no way you can ruin your pics as it has build-in 'auto-adjust' features. Good start. Any more light painting or pics like #1? -R

| | | Your highlights are blown, there are no perceivable subjects. Nothing interesting to look at. First, you want to learn how to use your camera, then try to find something to take a picture of. A snapshot of the inside of a barn or an electrical box isn't going to turn itself into art when you press the shutter button.

| | | 7 and 8 are really cool night shots.
40+ year olds with Myspace pages are not cool, they are pediphiles on the prowl. Buyer beware. |

| | | Thanks for the advice/encouragement. I am still just getting my feet wet so any comments help, even really obvious stuff since I haven't been around for long. I actually didn't edit those photos one bit since I wasn't sure how much editing was too much editing. I also had to upload the last four using a program called "Picasa" since they were shot in RAW, though I can't even see the difference in quality from here. I do have access to Photoshop 7.0 for editing which I have a feeling would be my best tool. There is another light-painting shot I took with my old camera (my shot but painting done by someone else):
Just got my new camera about a week ago and I have much to learn. It's kind of overwhelming, actually.

| | | I'm currently using Nikon's PictureProject for organization, and Adobe Lightroom for editing. I highly recommend Adobe LR for you if photoshop is hard. You can get a free 30-day demo on their website, but the LR is cheap compared to the full version. My two cents on this thread. Can't say any more... -R
