| | | Inside Tchernobyl < on 10/13/2007 10:38 PM >
| | | Prypat and such seems interesting, but anyone knows what are the formalities and fees to go inside the Tchernobyl reactor? I know it is possible to go inside. Parts of the plant are still maintained and some scientists still go inside on a regular basis. Apparently, some parts are still safe to go in. Who should I contact for more infos?

| | | This months National Geographic has a big section of Tchernobyl. I hate that mag, but this time they have a really good set. This place would be awesome to explore - minus the whole radiation thing.

| | | no problem dude, go ahead but don't be surprised when something grows inside your brain. Seriously, that place is better avoided at all cost. this guys said it was 10.000rem at certain places, that's enough to kill you in less than 10 minutes. I rather stay away.

| | | You can apply to see in the plant though it is long and complicated ... and rarely given unless you are in "the industry" or an official!!

| | | Yes, you can go inside the reactor. I've looked into this. While a 1 day tour of Pripyat can be had for less than $1,000 including meals, airport transfers and 2 nights accommodation, entry into the reactor is normally confined to the media and costs $3,600 for a 40 minute video shoot. However, most media pays in excess of $12,000 simply because the authorities know they can pay that amount. 60 minutes did a story last year. It cost them even more than that. I'll dig up the email address for ya.

| | | A tour of Prypat is about 400$ US, according to most agencies I've seen around on internet. As for the inside of the reactor, lack of information is a real problem. I'd definetely be ready to pay a few thousand dollars to go inside. Totally worth it if you ask me.
