Finding fellow UrbExers and organizing groups

Here is my question does anybody find it difficult for find other Urban Explorers in the city that they live in?

I live in Barrie and I know maybe.... 4... no more like 2 explorers based out of Barrie.
I have tried to resolve this problem by introducing new people into UrbEx, but I now have many reservations about doing so as I have had two... initiates? tune out to be total retards. One went to Edgar and ended up slashing the security guys tires and then proceeded to get arrested and managed to pull me into the issue via name dropping (I was not present for this, but none the less ended up getting in shit)

The second went into a drain with her new BF and they proceeded to tag, vandalise and other wise wreak a perfectly good and popular drain. Its now a popular hang out for stoners and burn outs.

Perhaps I'm going about things in the wrong way.
So maybe some of you could give me some guidance, tips and information that has worked for you in the past.

We are going to inherit the earth . There is not the slightest doubt about that. The bourgeoisie may blast and burn its own world before it finally leaves the stage of history. We Are not afraid of ruins. We who ploughed the prairies and built the cities can build again, only better next time. We carry a new world, here in our hearts. That world is growing this minute.

In my city, the only thing close to other UErs I know of are kids who get stoned and go into abandoned buildings to break windows/burn things/ break windows on burning buildings and cars.

I would kill you for a snack right now. I mean, seriously. I would end you for a cookie.

I in always prefer to go it alone since people in groups usually bring trouble. I have in the past before explored with one or two friends, but these were people who shared my interests and I knew would not come back with friends and smoke the place out.

It's not a bad idea to bring show someone around, but you have to make sure that he/she or they, share your interests, or else he/she or they, could take advantage of the situation in a reckless way.

Get to know a person well Before you take them. Its just like ninj said beyond the sign no one will tell you how to act.make sure they won't act stupid or disrespectful to a site and hand out the location. Also try not to take people who in the past ever asked if you know any "party" spot or the like etc etc...

Surrounded by empty mines and trains that just don't run.

Oh, my God. Holy shit. Fuck! I grew up with that lampshade. I love this kitchen. I fucking love this kitchen!

If there are any people in your area it will take some time to develop their trust and for them to "test" you out.

I recommend volunteering to meet with them and more than likely they'll have some sort of newbie run to the town whore or a very large meet.

I think the best advice is to just do your own thing while you're still meeting people in your area. Scout and discover locations. Go explore on your own and eventually things will fall in to place.

I live in the Washington DC area and have not seen anyone (except for Baltimore MD, 40 miles away) post anything. So I dont know anyone active in this area. I am new here so I am sure someone will turn up. I am pretty sure the long arm of the law watches this site, so I am very mindful of who I talk to.

It would be nice to find a few people around here to explore with though. My usual group of friends dont understand why I care about old buildings.

I have looked for events in the area, but it seems all of the events are way to far to drive to.

40+ year olds with Myspace pages are not cool, they are pediphiles on the prowl. Buyer beware.

Best advice for beginners is to show initiative and find places on your own and show that you're not just wanting to be led around by your hand by more reputable explorers. And always use discretion when talking about your locations, no names, locations or anything.

And good luck.

There's a ton of people I have explored with, but very few regulars. Most either loose interest or I simply don't invite them if I know they're not suitable to explore.

I usually get people interested in what I do after they look at my photos. Then I proceed to tell them about how dirty and possibly dangerous it is. If they are still interested and want to explore with me, I'll take them somewhere that they can't do any damage to or get caught at. If they behave and listen to where I tell them to walk, (and stay away from), I'll take them somewhere more intense. If they do well there too, I'll take them somewhere even more intense.

The key thing I try and do is never to tell people locations, but SHOW them in person, so I can possibly prevent them from screwing it up. Anything locations past that, they'll find for themselves if they're passionate enough to explore.

I think that you need to be more selective. people ask me all the time at work and at school what i do from my blog, saying they want to come along, but once i explain to them whats really expected (trespassing, sneaking, quiet, no stupidity) they lose interest real fast.

Isn't knowing two people enough?, or do you need 8 retards? I don't know about you, but I'm pretty picky about the people I hang out with, because I too have had ok people get retarded and get me in trouble on several occasions.

Note: retards/fuck-ups run in a posse. if you find one person to be a certain way, don't make assumptions about their friends being ok.
