| | | I'm no expert on this topic, but they both suck. I believe mold is more short-term in its evilness, while asbestos will get you more years after. Don't go inhaling either of them. If for some reason you're held at gunpoint and to jump into either a big tub of mold, or a big tub of asbestos, I'd personally pick the mold.

| | | Your body will fight off even the worst mold as long as you are in good health with a strong immune system. Mold symptoms appear quickly, but most serious problems are from those with allergies adn are living with the mold condition. A relatively short UE excursion in a moldy area isn't going to have noticable effects. Asbestos fibers, once they are in your lungs, are there for life. Your body can't flush them out.

I have agree with this in part-- asbestos is a fine neele-like particle that once imbedded in your lungs ultimately produces thoracic cavity cancers-- you might have heard Mesothelioma thrown around on local "lawyer" ads. That is the cancer of the pulmonary/ abdominal area that is directly associated with asbestos exposure-- ESPECIALLY long term exposure. Mold however can have its OWN problems witnessed a LOT sooner. Largely if your immune system is intact you'd be less likely to suffer serious reactions unless you are allergic. There are some absolutely TOXIC specimens that can ravage even the strongest & healthiest explorers. Mycotoxins (fungal poisons) can be handled by competent immunes systems in SMALL doses but large doses can incapacitate or kill. Once its "in", its IN. The likelihood that someone will appropriately diagnose mycotoxicosis is MINIMAL at best. Lets not just worry about mycotoxins but also MYCOSIS which is a direct fungal infection. Some spp like Aspergillus LOVE warm, nutrient rich environments ie your body. If it does make it past your defenses local emergency rooms will likely treat your fever and desperate bacterial-like symptoms with heavy antibiotics not realizing until at LEAST 2 days later that you're being ravaged by a fungus when the labs finally come back. You get to look forward to MOF & possible "dain bramage" at the point. It's not the best of scenarios. Ultimately, when it doubt-- whip it out-- the mask that is! You might look like crap for your MYSPACE page but you'll breath easier at night.

Pigeon poop is probably the worst of the three for a fast acting issue. That stuff can hit you in 24 hours and cause some serious respiratory problems. Life threatening even, if not treated. I know i got a terrible case of pneumonia last year from this and it took several rounds of antibiotics to clear my lungs. http://www.aviator.../bird_problems.htm more info.... Inhalation of fecal dust As bird feces and/or the contaminated soil it rests on, dries or is disturbed, microscopic pieces break off and become airborne. These airborne particles can contain dormant fungi and/or bacteria. When breathed into the lungs, the warm, moist environment of the lung lining provides a breeding ground for the infectious agents. Common symptoms of this type of infection are flu like in nature: coughing, elevated temperature, restricted breathing and general body fatigue, and last roughly two to four days. The vast majority of the time, the bodies defenses will contain the invaders even before minor symptoms appear but in a small percentage of cases, major infection causing long term disability and even death occurs. It is worth noting that there is no known medical cure for internal fungal infections. After the Northridge earthquake, several thousand people came down with flu like respiratory symptoms. The ailment was called Valley Fever and was caused by people breathing in dust and airborne debris filled with histoplasmosis spores and related fungal agents stirred up by the earthquake. Direct contact with feces Infection occurs when a worker or resident gets fecal dust or droppings in an open wound or cut. This commonly occurs when handling old rusty, sharp porcupine wire ledge products which are covered with bird feces. The wound site becomes red, puffy and puss-filled. Antibiotics are often needed to cure the infection. In some rare cases, infection of the blood (Septis) or internal infection can also occur causing serious illness or death. Proper attire and care must always be used when cleaning a bird site or installing bird control products. If a cut or injury occurs, thoroughly wash and disinfect the wound and cover with a sterile bandage to minimize risk of infection.

| | | Well mold is bead for you, but my body doesn't have a problem with it. For those of you who have allergies mold may bother you. I have a strong immune system. Asbestos is a long term consequence deal and is a pain in the ass. anyways a respirator would work fine when exploring asbestos areas. Otherwise I don't use a mask.

Bullshit again; You people are so full of shit your eyes are brown. Why don't you quit talking out of your asses on subjects that you are uninformed on? Come back when you have a clue. Moulds can seriously damage you in the long run, just like asbestos. The chances of getting sick from breathing in a cloud of spores significantly outweighs the chances of having an asbestos fibre imbedded in your lung. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mycotoxin The most common and dangerous type of mold is Aspergillus, aka black mold. Almost all of these are sources of Aflatoxins. They're toxic and carcinogenic. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aflatoxin http://en.wikipedi...Mold_health_issues http://en.wikipedi.../wiki/Aspergilloma An aspergilloma, also known as a mycetoma or fungus ball, is a clump of fungus which exists in a body cavity such as the lung. The most common fungus responsible are the Aspergillus species, but Zygomycetes and Fusarium may also form similar structures.

This guy nailed it. Asbestos will stay in you forever, but if the asbestos is in a solid state ( not dust floating in the air) your ok.

| | | Black mold "Stachybotrys" is really the only type of mold that can do any harm to you. If your exposed to it for about an hour you'll get bad headaches and such. But the only way it can do any real harm to you is if your exposed to it for regular amounts for about a month, which will cause stomach bleeding and bad abdominal pains. Its pretty easy to spot, since well, its "blackmold" so im pretty sure asbestos is alot worse.

You have some good info there, but take it easy man I can't imagine someone getting so intense about mold.

Not usually, but there are some dangerous molds out there. Generally though, asbestos is majorly worse.
