| | | When looking for drains I usually go alone. Just all the wetness and brush along the streams/rivers I like to keep to myself. As for actually exploring them, depends how risky they are. For buildings and whatnot, I usually try to share the experience with someone else. We bounce ideas off eachother. Good to have someone with wits incase you lose yours. I usually end up walking way too far when I'm alone too.

| | | Well i like to find drains my self, and all scouting, so no one bothers me when I'm in the zone. But drains I think should be explored with someone else, even though I don't always do that. I don't like running into homeless people, I found one at this bridge I went to today he was sleeping, I almost stepped on him, LOL then I went home.

| | | in my own personal opinion, bring someone with you that is dedicated to the art of UE. these are my reasons 1.) there are strength in numbers however there is more stealth in fewer numbers - Ninjalicious 2.) as it has been stated, sh*t happens and its always best to cover your ass when the goings get rough. 3.) scouting alone is one thing, but entering a site that you have no idea about is totally something else. its better to have two and (in my opinion) only two people. when 'sploring a site. one cant see everywhere at once so it's nice to know that you have someone to help you out and watch your back. in my experience, ive traveled with a single friend who happens to be a photographer and i know his ethics about these types of exploration will only aid us and not work against us. for example, when i first took him to my favorite place, he kept tabs on or near entrances while i slipped in a bit further till i cleared him. again he watches my back and i watch his. especially in cases for women, have someone (preferably a guy) that you trust that will go with you. and be prepared for the unexpected. also, some type of look-alike weapon will work wonders. i use a cable caster with my maglight mounted on top of it. it looks like a gun, but is totally non-lethal. very effective.

Fake guns are useful only if you want to be shot, or have someone report it as a real weapon to the cops. Expect a very unfriendly encounter if the cops think your packing. Plenty of people pack real guns illegally to commit crime, and aren't shy about using them. As stated earlier, numbers don't stop bullets, and one large caliber semi is more than a match for the biggest guy you can find. Running and distance can save your life; just a few yards of distance reduce the odds of being hit exponentially. Avoid violent confrontations at all costs even if you are packing. Stealth, alertness, and common sense are your best allies. A person that carries themselves in a confident manner will have far less trouble than someone who appears tentative, frightened, or an easy victim.
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. |
