What do most of you use to supply yourselves with food and water while UEing? Does anyone use energy gels or bars? Does anyone make their own food? What kind of water bottles do people use?

Well depending on the trip and estimated time that i will be away it changes everything.
If im on a short trip than yes ill just pack a few energy bars and a canteen of water, (I use a standard military issue canteen), it will hold i think 1L of water but i usually cary a backup in my backpack.
If im going on a longer trip i may pack a few sandwiches and more water(i only drink water well UEing its the best thing you can have with you).
And for the day or longer trips i have a little camp stove the size of a bean can and a bit of soop or something.

That isn’t just a chill down your spine, yes be paranoid.

Doesn't it get to be a pain carrying all that around? Most of the places I go it's a huge hassle to have a giant backpack full of food making your diameter twice the size.

The only thing I ever actually bring with me for consumption is water.

O ya defiantly i would never waste my time lugging all of it at once, always depending on the trip size.

In terms of food, if you dont mind a little cooking, you can make some flapjacks. PM me for the recipe. These are bars which are packed with energy. We make a lot when we go canoing, and we have stored them for over 2 weeks in the summer heat. We eat one 3" by 3" square of them for lunch, and it will fill us, and nourish us for a good 7 hours (and yes, we are all teenagers). In terms of water, a single nalgene (1L) will usually last about 2-3 hours for moderate exercise. There is this obsession in north america with drinking water. Just make sure you drink a healthy amount (for me, 70 kg, about 2L of water suffices per day). When you start feeling thirsty, just take a small sip, no need to down the whole bottle, you will just feel blotted, and you will still have the thirst. Be warned, if you drink too much, you will get hyponatremia, which is very serious. It is caused by your body leaking too much sodium from the cell. This causes a shift in the water from the blood into cells. This leads to brain inflammation, which can cause serious lapse in judgment, diminished reflexes, diminished reflexes. This is a very dangerous situation, and can cause anything from a headache, to nausea, to coma, and all the way to death.

I am mentioning this because I have actually seen this happen. People bring too much water, do not eat enough, and it causes them to suffer hyponatremia, and this has lead me to call a med evac, and this is not something you want to happen, esp if your exploring (causes some unwanted questioning).

Developing advanced hyponatremia(that actually requires hospitalization and treatment beyond electrolyte replacement) would require drinking an absurd amount of water with little to no electrolyte intake. By "absurd", I mean something along the lines of .75 liters for every pound of bodyweight. There's the possibility of mild hyponatremia, or just a simple sodium deficit, but those won't kill you and do not require medevac.

When I was in the Army, my medics often pulled people from training for "heat injury", which was actually hyponatremia and could very well have been treated in the field. Any electrolyte replacement drink will suffice, but for Gatorade/Powerade, you need to dilute it by 50%, or add a bit of salt AND drink extra water. After all...this is WHY those drinks were invented. Use them.

Please don't be stupid. It might piss me off so much that I have a seizure or something. I hate stupid people.

True, but it might not take so much water. If you are poorly nourished, it may also happen.

AVE...

Depending on place to explore, I take water (1,5L bottle), and sometimes can of mixed meat. It contains all of the meat that can't be purchased at butcher's... I don't need much food, since I have slow metabolism. Sometimes I don't eat trough the whole day. Sometimes, like doing my University Period, I can stay active only with support of coffee for 2 or 3 days. I drink a lot: water, coffee, beer, sometimes homemade wine, and tea in my big, 0,33L mug... Drinking tea in cup is waste of time...

Living in Poland is like searching for a key in a pool full of used syringes.
You never know, what you get...
