| | Sewer roachs? < on 3/10/2007 2:57 AM >
| | | Ok, so it has been a common belief between me and my fellow UEers that if you enter a drainage pipe that has only 2 entrance/exits, if you see 2 or more sewer roachs, theres is a 99% chance of there being hundreds of masses of them in the near ahead, so we went into a drain by a bayou we found, and we saw 2 and immediatly decided to haul ass out of there, which I regret doing. So, my question is, is this myth or fact, and would it be smart to go back and continue, because i know people who have died by being smutherd in sewer roachs, and someone who was asleep and a single roach almost killed him by lodging himself in his ear. Scary thought.

I'd have to agree, I'd say that they are more afraid of you then you are of them but that may not be the case here.

Hehe best thing I read all day. not being mean but that made me smile. truth be told at least that tells you that the pipe has enough oxygen for life to survive. Where earplugs and a respirator so that you could breath even if you were "smutherd by roaches"

| | | ummmmmmmm...what? Did you personally know this guy who died by sewer roaches? That doesn't sound quite right. Roaches are nasty little fuckers, but they're not going to hurt you, even if they do crawl on you. I personally would rather just avoid them, but it has nothing to do with safety, just the fact that being covered in bugs isn't my thing.

| | | Its not like they were intentionally try to harm him, there were hundreds and hundreds of them and when he shined his light on them they freaked and started running towards him and he stumbled out of fear and fell, the roachs then crawled all over him including into his orifaces (sp?), which suffocated/crawled down his throat. The only thing i worry about is if i run into A LOT of them. they are fast, and the drain wasnt tall, so if they were on the roof and jumped down they would land on my face, which i would not enjoy.

you must be joking.... this is the the single most stupid thing i have read in a long time. I have drained in some areas of LA where the roaches were ankle deep and they did nothing.. Roaches are not going to "attack" by running towards light...they fear light and run AWAY from it (try turning on a light in a gehtto apt sometime).

| | | thats all a bunch of b.s. dont pay attention to these guys rookie theyre just trying to scare you everyone knows drain roaches are blind, even blinder than bats since they dont echo-locate so they just dont see any light and have to feel their way around in the total darkness of a drain but they are really good at finding crevices and holes to hide in really if they are disturbed they tend to swarm and first thing they do is look for a hole, any hole, an ear hole, nose hole, yep any body orifice they can fit in they'll crawl right up it and wont come back out til it thunders, really... I got lucky right after this shot was taken the bugger ran straight up my leg and tried to burrow into my urethra, really, fortunately for me he was about 1 inch wide so he only got half way in and I didnt need to seek medical attention to have him extracted see those spines on their legs? theyre like a barb and they work one way only going in! they can slip into a tight space but its Hell pull'n em out, barbs ya know really!

| | | i wouldnt be worried about them at all. i'm not big on draining, but before i even knew what UE was, me and a friend went in this big concrete drain to see how far it went. soon after we dropped in we noticed there were cockroaches, silverfish...all kinds of nasty bastards all over the ceiling and walls. they usually just scurry around in random directions, and pose no threat. even if they get on you, the most they're going to do is just really gross you out or possibly bite, which is less than a bee sting painwise. and if you have a light, just shine it on em and they run for cover. you can also hear them if you listen closely. sounds like of light faint rustling. after that experience though...i'm too wussy to enter most drains. those things just give me chills.

| | | I think this might be a serious threat! I watched a documentary where this happened. This group was on an archeological expedition in Egypt and they were exploring this tomb. This tomb only had One Entrance so you can imagine the danger they were in!! Anyway at one point in the documentary a bunch of bugs came up right out of the floor and they started chasing the people. They not only suffocated one of the guys, but they ATE him!!! Miraculously this guy from the documentary survived, but just look at his face he is clearly terrified! Thank God they made that documentary, I now have a new respect and fear of all creepy crawly things!!!
Seriously Man!! I just about laughed myself out of my chair when I heard about this bit of "common knowledge". This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Either someone is messing with you or you are trying to mess with us. There is no way that this could ever happen.
