| | | i don't take many pics exceot those i take of my kids. but i do love the inside of abandoned buildings because of the history behind the building. My dilemma is that ive never actually went into any buildings before and i would even know how to get in. so if there is anyone in buffalo that wants to help a chic out let me know. thanx!

Interesting... I don't see them asking for freebies. What i see is a budding explorer who is asking for general help. Perhaps you shouldn't be so quick to condemn. Grateful, There are many explorers in the WNY area, and most of them are very nice people. I'm sure if you express the interest, and put forth the necessary effort, you will find people that will help you along on your way. Of course once the weather gets better, things will get busy here. So, take the time to get to know the locals. From what i've seen, some of the locals do a lot of exploring. GV [last edit 3/3/2007 11:43 PM by Geo - edited 1 times]

Well it's surprisingly easy many times. You go into an a abandoned building by using the door. Wide open doors are always a good sign. I don't advocate B&E, and it's unnecessary most times anyway if the building is truly abandoned. If your sincere you may still enjoy a wealth of derision for posting such a thread as your third posting here. Geo V is a nice guy, and he's offered you sound advice. Ask not what your UER can do for you, ask what can I do for UER (forgive me JFK ) We like pics, and they can be outside shots too. You can also ask permission to get into places, tell the story that goes with the location, but don't give info that could get the site damaged by thieves, vandals or tourists. Read what others here have to say, and learn from their experience/mistakes.

If she's looking for others to meet up with and places to go, Buffalo is the right place to be. Damn 2X. I was being nice!

Not all of us are. I'm quite open to taking n00bs along on certain trips. If I lived in Buffalo I would gladly meet up with Grateful and show her around.

| | | Everyone has to start somewhere and it is better to go exploring with someone who has been at it for a while so that you don't fuck up and kill yourself. I bet these same people who like to kick and scream when a newbie asks for starting advice are the same ones who will be first to tell everyone how people shouldn't be doing this if they don't know what they are doing when some kid dies.

Yeap. If you've never done this before, but are interested, yet know little of construction and structures, stopping at the door and not going in is a good idea. Asking for help is an even better notion.

Seeing as Zyjek only has his one-month star and is not yet a full-member, I think he probably still counts as a rookie too.
There's a ton around Buffalo, Rochester, and everywhere in between. I have no problem bringing new explorers along on some lower risk trips (I typically don't want to try anything high-risk with someone I don't know well). Feel free to PM me about what kind of locations you're interested in and such, and perhaps you can join my group on one of our trips.

| | | Grateful - be grateful you live in Buffalo. There's half a dozen places that come to mind right away that require you to simply walk up and through an open door/gaping hole in the wall in your hometown. Wander around the abandoned factories etc., this time of year is actually good, because footprints from local kids/other explorers will likely lead you to holes in fences, open doors, etc. Although I'd recommend meeting up with some other local people, since a few of the places I'm thinking of have some sketchy floors and easy ways to hurt yourself. But anyways, in Buffalo, all that's often required is a closer look, and working up the nerve to actually walk into a place that's more or less wide open by ue standards.
