I believe that in order for it to have been a double standard I would have to lash out against the hallway shot, then go ahead and post my own series of hallway shots whilst pointing out that it is acceptable for me to post said shots for a particular reason. There are no double standards involved here.

No Manitou, I just thought you stated your opinion, and found it contradictory how you dident like it when I did the same. Wack HDR, or overloaded asluym photography. Your criticizing the numbers and possibly the technique --- and I'm talking about the composition and focusing strictly on the technique of the photogapher.

It is ok for me to dislike shots that are cliche and trite, if every week there was another series of shots of the gear from the Brickworks I would dislike that too because of the abject absence of any creativity. I have nothing against a shot of a hallway, but a series of 20 photos in which half are hallway shots tells me that the photographer is simply not paying close enough attention to the building and it's features.

I don't like repitition either. But maybe the person doing it has no idea and they are asking for help. In which case, if it is wack, u can say so -- AND offer advice.
I still hate wack HDR, nudes in abandonments and so forth. And if i shoudl perk up here, I might offer my opinion if I think the person will value it.

I am comfortable with my photography, if I want opinions on it I have a group of friends and compatriots whose opinions I respect to turn to rather than post on here (I mean no denigration to any of the members of this site by this).

Now that's pretty elitist. I dont show too much of my work here, but I do show it elsewhere and think others outside my circle have something of value to add to the mix.

You shouldn't be if you don't care, that is a bizzare response.

Jeez. I shouldn’t have to do this:

OPINION-a personal belief or judgment that is not founded on proof or certainty; "my opinion differs from yours"

ATTITUDE-a complex mental state involving beliefs and feelings and values and dispositions to act in certain ways; "he had the attitude that work was fun"

Well, since a similar thread exists, and both you and I posted on it, I'll just say other dialogue isent discouraged around here.

Where I posted this

Screw you nay sayers! I say let the people have their fun.

Sure some shots may be mediocre and some locations may be shot to death. That doesn't mean that they aren't new and exciting to those who visit. That also shouldn't mean the posters should be scorned into not sharing their photos. I don't see the point in being elitist.

Also, it is so easy to pick out the asylum threads by the titles given...just skip past that thread. This way you don't get irritated and people who love asylums can still have their fun. Personally, I am not that excited by most of the asylum shots, but I understand that some people are, especially in the Northeast and as far as I am concerned they can go crazy with them. That also goes for chipped paint, wheelchairs, pianos, etc..

I must admit I get irritated by the posting of non ue pictures and pictures with models and especially threads that combine the two.

Therefore, I haven’t wildly changed my opinions on these types of threads to attack you. I am also not amassing an army of friends to respond to your threads.

Posted by Air 33

its just a simple statement. A 1 inch border is totally uncalled for. And again, that's just an opinion. Don't get too bent out of shape about it.

I don’t know if this was written just to make me crazy or not. Do you realize that this is the first time you said “1 inch border”? My point was that you need a reference point, such as one inch and now you are acting as if we were always discussing one inch borders. I am going crazy!

Please state your opinion all you want, after all, that is what the internet is for. I dislike many of the things that you listed off in your initial post and the subject can be criticized as well. Exploration is a key component of urban exploration photography and that exploration should lead to the discovery of new and different subjects.

With respect to my supposed elitism. I don't consider myself to be vastly superior to anyone on this site, in fact I know that there are many photographers on here whose talent is greater than mine and that is what I meant by the line "I mean no denigration to any of the members of this site by this" which I ended my post with. As for getting the opinions of others outside my circle, I do gallery shows with my group and I appreciate the opinions from those who attend our shows.

I may very well be mistaken Air, but I believe you were at one of our openings, what did you think?

Well, then this is just a difference in opinions, which is what I was trying to say all along.I think they belong here for this type of thread to be constructive.

I did attend your show in June. I really like the work of Jay Morrison and follow him on flickr. I'm feeling his recent street shooting. I do believe he is not a member anymore tho.

And for those who complained before about a lack of my work here, it is now up.

Much better, but our next show of heavily HDR'ed abandoned houses will top them all!

This thread is extremely silly. As always: post what you do like, ignore what you don't like, and critique what you think could/should be better. Lots of talk, no action.

An odd thread. I started one of similar structure years ago on another forum when I was drunk once, it was good for a few pages of banter.

After that opening statement, this is the photo you submit for critique? An odd choice, but I will give it a go:

It looks a little overexposed in the center, which is obviously the subject of our intended attention. I must concede, it could easily be my monitor. I think this photo would benefit from a tighter crop, the odd purple areas on the lower right/left corners dont help the subject. If it were me, I would probably crop out to the tree on the right, to the building on the left.

Happy clicking!

It took me a second to figure it out. It is a picture of a derailment. It is not one of her pictures. You can see her pictures here http://www.uer.ca/...d=1&threadid=40451

Nah the photo wasn't mine, tis' just a train derailment. Sort of like how this thread derailed.

It was just humor.

Note: Do not critique aerial shot. It was just a statement. Unless you want to.
