| | Toronto Power Company Tailrace @ Vanishing Point < on 10/3/2006 6:21 AM >
| | | Exploring the Toronto Power Company tailrace The Toronto Power Company tailrace beneath Niagara Falls is one of the most fantastic works of underground construction in Canada, as well as one of the most difficult to reach. As the station is increasingly worked over for 'preservative' redevelopment, and some British drainers make perhaps the last push to reach its depths, I'm posting publicly for the first time my account of its existence and my trip into it two years ago. An inherently dangerous place to reach, please do not attempt to do so unless you really know what you're doing. I've also added several additional Toronto-area storm drains to the site since the last time I posted an update here. Enjoy. www.vanishingpoint.ca

| | | That is a really wonderful write-up of your trip. The photos are very nice as well. Sounds like an amazing place, thank you for sharing that.

| | | Really impressive website. I visited Hearn this summer, my only regret is that I did not check it out sooner. Do you know anything about the "jail cell" in the offices?

Because of the amount of water, I didn't photograph the tunnel outlet at the time (I wish I had). The junction is just downstream of the plant, after which the tailwater flows several thousand feet down a single large tunnel under the river to the falls and yes, emerges behind the curtain.

| | | I usually don't like drains or that sort of exploring, but this gave me a woody.
