if you get caught

yea, if your trespassing in a construction zone or other, and the police, land owner, or other person come and stuff, or whatever the situation might be, may get you in trouble, what should you do? considering you have not vandalized or stolen anything, just trespassing.

How about being honest, "I was just curious about what was going on and how the process was done" Blame it on Discovery Channel.

So they might just let you go becase your just looking around. But if they do whant to make you pay a fine of some sort. I would just ask them what they are doing on this site so i would not be a totle wast of trip..you got some info.

If you can't beat them, shoot them!

Dress for success, look like you're supposed to be on the construction site (jeans, work boots ect), and then if caught say you were looking for the foreman to see if you could get in some work. Chances are they'll say no and escort you off the property.

First, do your best to not get caught. Blend in, be stealthy, stay outta sight or look like you are supposed to be there.

If you get caught you can either tell the truth, come up with a good reason why you are there (short cut, escaping from a gang, etc) or if the guy is old and over weight (like me) run like hell.
Each situation is different. A good recon and investigation will tell you what pitfalls to avoid. (security level-(passive, active, # of guards and their mobility) entry points-(with or without cover and #), site cover, time of day thats best, weather, who might be around-(homeless, workers, etc)

Good luck

It really depends on who you get caught by, and the situation. If it's a cop, just show em your camera and tell em the truth. Lying to the cops will just make more trouble. If you see them before they see you, (this might sound like idiocy) approach the cop *carefully* and tell them what you're doing, and why. Chances are they won't arrest you, just send you off with a warning or a ticket. If it's an owner, and they don't look too pissed, try talking your way out. Sometimes asking the right questions will send them into a history lesson about the area you're exploring, and they'll forget that you were trespassing, or even offer to give you a tour. If the person (non-cop) is unreasonable, or brandishing a weapon, i would run. Running is also good if you KNOW they haven't seen you yet If you get caught by a security guard, try to run before they actually catch you. Most of the time they won't go beyond the boundaries of the company/area they are guarding. Keep in mind though that some guards are armed, and sometimes more likely to shoot than the cops. There are many threads about this topic, and i strongly suggest you use the search function provided to gather more information.

Cops? Tell them you're a photographer/explorer or anything that sounds reasonable. It really helps if you have a cool looking camera and other photography equipment on you.
Owner/Security guard? Run. For your life. Just don't harm them.
Homeless? Talk to them while holding you weapon out. Tell them you don't want to hurt them or steal anything from them. Some are friendly, others are not. If they have a weapon and they want to hurt you, just run. For your life.

It is easy to fake social eng. Know why you are there before anyone talks to you. And while you are there assume someone is watching you. Dont run, walk directly like you are headed somewhere else.

You dont have to be invisible to not be scene. If someone looks at you and doesnt see anything of interest they wont remember seeing you at all.

People will tell you to use stealth, but if you spotted someone hopping from bush to bush..

If you see people comeing, leave the area. The least they can charge you with is a trespassing ticket, if they are dicks, the worst can be B&E on some trumped up charge or theft.

If you can leave the area great. If you can't and they say hey you, politely walk up showing no signs of aggression.

I really need to post verbal judo info on here for some of you.

And, look at it this way.

Depending on where you live, the worst case scenario is going to be a trespassing ticket, which in Ontario can set you back $150 worst case.

So, whenever I'm UE'ing, I always keep it in the back of my head "Worst case...150 bucks and a few hours of bullshit". That really helps a lot sometimes

The Basic Rules of dealing with cops/security:

1. Don't get caught: This is the most effective way to stay out of trouble.

2. If there is a high chance of being caught, reconsider your trip.

3. Be Honest.

4. Don't Break anything. Don't Vandalize, Don't be a dush.

Nothing pisses off cops or security more than somebody with an attitude. Being polite, honest, and mildly apologetic will often get you off with nothing but a verbal admonishment unless the cop is a dick. Don't underestimate the power of laziness, no cop wants more paperwork to do.

Good rules, #2 is worth some thought. There's a 10 story blgd with a 100 or so crane on top I like to climb. However it would be too much fun to explain that even with truth, and unlikely someone would not see you. I think I'll pass on that one; it's a whole lot easier to avoid trouble, than to get out of trouble once your in it. Never bring tools, or force entry!

If you do run into the cops, be polite, don't resist, don't do shit that makes them nervous, and comply with their instructions promptly. Even if they're being pricks. It will minimize the damage to you, and your wallet. Active sites are likely to get you arrested if your caught "touring" them off hours. At construction sites vandals are a big problem.

Asking the right person at the site, and looking sincere about it can get you a free tour. Sometimes with no supervision. I've done this, and it's sweet.

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

When I was younger I really didn't care about getting caught because the cops in my town didn't care either. It was just a "get out of here" and then we left. Later on in life I told the truth if I were caught for something...sometimes I left out some important information though. Half-truths can always be fun.
