The needle and the damage done...
| | Johnny Cash infiltrates... < on 7/8/2006 5:25 AM >
| | | Yep, just watching an Ovation show on the immortal Johnny Cash. At one point he revisits a house that belonged to his family for a time, but is now abandoned. He walks right in with family and camera crew in tow and points you various features of the house he remembers. Unfortunately the lighting is quite dim, but it's real urbex. And he's Johnny Cash. Cheers

| | | Johnny Cash performed a concert at the Tennessee State Prison (http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=24524) called "A Concert Behind Prison Walls". Because he was one cool mofo.

| | | Not much of a country fan, but he is an exception. I have a bunch of his CDs among my rock/metal CDs. He was awesome! He made (his style anyways) country cool...country today I just can't stand. Hail Johnny!!

Bull Shit! He just walked right in, he was Johnny Cash. Quite the Chuck Norris of his day. Footage from that show was used for the 2003 video of the Cash song "Hurt", if you haven't seen it you should really check it out. It is one of the best music video's I've ever seen, in any genre.

| | | Johny Cash is A-OK. Down to earth, an all right kind of guy. Even when I didn't like any country music I listened to JC. Samurai think I'll cue some JC up!

| | | I've never read anything before about Johnny ever hitting Vivian or June. Must be urban legend. Yes, he did play concerts in prisons. But he never served a prison sentence. It's funny, there seems to be two Johnny Cash's. Johnny Cash, the legend.. And Johnny Cash, the legend of the legend. There's just so much I hear about this man that I can't really verify.

| | | As I've mentioned once or twice before, I listen to a radio show on NPR here in the States called "This American Life". It's sort of like a radio documentary show. It's also where I first heard of Ninj and learned that there was a name for this weird little hobby I had of poking around buildings and such. In any event, in between stories on the show (or "Acts", as they are referred to by the host), they usually play a short musical bump. In one episode they played a song called "I see a darkness". Hearing it, I thought to myself "Self, that sounds like a Johnny Cash song that someone did a cover of". (And, I agreed with myself. Sharp guy, that Self.) Come to find out - the song was written and recorded by a man named Will Oldham, using the stage name of Bonnie Prince Billy. It was a very dark, sad song, and it sounded like it was definitely a Cash cover.. and then I found out that in fact, Will wrote it, and Cash loved it so much, he covered it on his American III album. Funky. Look around for it. I've heard both versions, but I still lean towards Oldham's. TMiB

| | | Regarding Johnny's music, I've always considered him rock in sensibility and complexity. He was no bumpkin, by any means. I just wonder what's become of the house he visited. Is it a Walfart now, or occupied, or condos. The ultimate dream is for it to be still standing unoccupied for all these years, but I somehow doubt that is the case. Cheers

That would be nice, except for one thing, it still very active, and also belongs to the state of California, and they take a very dim view of any UE type activity. It's also the location of the states death house. But if anyone could manage to get in and UE the place without being caught, and incarcerated there, that would be one sweet piece of B&E. Of course you would have to have king sized balls to even attempt such a feat
