Browsed through a few photos from a recent trip overseas, I noticed I've been shooting at angles a lot more than dead-on lately. Not sure if they get bothersome after a while... opinions welcome on that and about any of the photos

I like 'em. Very nice, especially #1. Is that a coffin?

beautiful as always. I think you manage to blend the angels in so well with the composition that it's just natural.

I adore that Piano.

No, I can't say they bother me at all. I like the angles, you know, within reason generally speaking. You have got some beauties here, what's the story with that Crown in the first one? N.

I can't find something I don't like about any of these. Great job. I'd be happy to see more as well.

Yes #1 is a casket holding the remains of an English Baron in a crypt found while driving around, there were crowns resting on most of the coffins inside and some of the scrollwork on the caskets was incredible. The door was wide open and the crypt was surprisingly untouched for many years, it was a very beautiful place.

I like them. The only 2 that throw mw off are 4 and 6 but only slightly. Great stuff there.

The honest truth, the angles kinda bug me. Particularly in #1 and #3, I think they could have been so much stronger by relying on the angles of the subject matter, rather than introducing an off-angle in-camera, which seems to diminish the impact of the lines of both the coffin and the church. Don't get me wrong, they're good photos, but for my tastes, shooting them with a levelled camera (from the same position you shot from for these) would have made them amazing photos, rather than really good photos.

I think the whole angled photo thing came from the newspaper world (at least that's where I noticed it first in the early/mid 90s), where photographers would shoot off-angle because of a few reasons - first, because with people as the subject is isn't so disorienting, and second, because it helps make an otherwise boring picture play better on a newspaper page. These aren't photos of people, and they're not boring subject matters either.

The angle thing works (for me) for something like #4, and #6 if it wasn't quite so extreme. I actually would have liked the angle approach for #2, if only because uer seems to get so saturated with open door diminishing hallway type shots, but then the places I shoot tend to be more industrial in nature, so I'm a bit more critical of that type of shot, whether it's from an asylum or not.

The infrared is nice in #8, mainly because it's not overly obvious. #5 is killer, although a touch left-side-heavy. #7 is a nice example of how to shoot a subject that a 2 dimensional film plane/ccd has no right trying to cover. I'd maybe crop a bit more off the right side, just to abstract it a bit more, but again, that's personal taste.

Anyway, that's my 2 (or 25) cents.

yep.

Jesus man, why do you always post crappy snapshots on here?

Just kidding.

I think the angles work best for the interiors; getting a "weird angle" thing to work on an exterior is tricky. For example, I don't thing 6 works because the dominant image (tower) drags you right out of the frame.

There are some great shots here, tho - 1, 3, and 7 in particular are very captivating. 8 doesn't seem to use a weird angle at all, but is definitely a sick image.

Overall, very nice set!

You rock Motts.

I love the first. I think the angle works great in the third also.

Overall, magnificent shots.
